The thing I hate with these warnings is that they always list "large hail" as possible so I never want to bring out my car as I don't want to get it all dinged up.

Tornado spotted by Sundre, was kinda tempted to drive over to that storm a half hour ago since it was kinda near my house guess I should have had for pics.

I can't justify driving to Sundre from Airdrie. Any of you weatherheads know if there is something closer by or if the storm is headed this way?

Edit:

I'll go for a drive north of here and see what I can find. I'm subscribing to the thread so I can get updates on my cellphone. So if anything is going down, post it here so I know about it!

Thanks.

Cell just south of Springbank. This one is topping out at approx 35000ft. It may go right through NW Calgary heading towards the E-NE. Doesn't appear to be a major storm at this point.

Don't forget the handy dandy "hail stop doppler radar feed" with neat features like:

-storm forecasting (red circles show the forecast direction of the storm)
-cloud tops in KM's
-tracking of the hailstop fleet as they take to the skies to fight mother nature!

The one south of Sundre right now is at 53000. It's clearly visible from Airdrie. Not sure if that's the tornado one or not.

Yeah, I'm looking at that one from NE Calgary also. Very impressive!

looks like the tornadic cell is dying off while the southern storm Northeast of Crossfield is back building into a gust front.

I dont think anything is going to happen with that one south of Springbank. Its barely moving and isn't growing.

Edit: Another large cell (that Sluggo referred to) W-SW of Crossfield, may go right through Airdrie, but it won't be for close to 2 hours before it gets here.

Where are you heading to?

From Environment Canada:
Doppler radar at 4.40 PM MDT indicates a possible tornado on the ground 15 km southwest of Water Valley tracking southeast 25 km/h. No watcher reports of a tornado have been received.

For Jayems:

Tornado warning for
M.D. of Rocky View near Cochrane and Big Hill Springs Prov. Park issued

Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions. Watch for updated statements.

Head North West if you're not scared of having your car destroyed or possibly even death. Paul Dunphy just showed radar, enormous cell to the NW, says it's hitting Calgary in about 30 minutes.

If I had a back-up vehicle or old beater I'd head out there right now.

Gotta go. Hopefully my house (Airdrie) is still here when I get back. That monster cell south of Water Valley is heading this way and like Eddie said, it will probably hit parts of Calgary too.
