They've been extended an invitation to join the Pac-10. I really like the look of the Pac-10 (12) with Colorado and Utah. I wonder how the divisions are going to line up?
East:
Arizona, Arizona St., Colorado, Utah
West:
Cal, UCLA, Stanford, USC
The Oregon schools go in one division and the Washington Schools in the other...

Clever,
How is that going to work? They will get a conference championship game and you cant have 4 divisions.
just do a north and south division.

You'd never see Oregon and Washington agree to that. Those trips into California every year are huge for recruiting. It's rumoured that it'll be:
North - Wash, Wazzou, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal, Stanford
South - Colorado, Utah, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State

The Pac-10 is all about traveling partners. CU will be paired with Utah. The state schools travel together and alternate, and CU's natural partner is Utah.

I guess my post wasn't clear. I thought that there would be two divisions - USC, UCLA, Stanford and Cal and either the Oregon or Washington schools in one and Arizona, ASU, Colorado, Utah and either Oregon or Washington school in the other - 6 schools in each. I didn't know which division the Oregon or Washington schools would go to if it was set up as East West.

This is what I'm hearing. The California schools are joined by the Arizona schools to form the South Division and the North Division consists of the rest.
Oregon, OSU, Washington and WSU are pretty touchy about being left out, so I wonder how they would rectify this - maybe two games against California schools and one against an Arizona school per year, plus divisional games plus 2 out of conference games?

Rumors swirling that UCF (Central Florida) and Memphis have joined the Big East.
The Big East PR is denying it, but that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Such a strange move, it's almost as if they've resigned themselves to becoming a third rate football conference and a massive (both in talent and size) basketball conference. I thought they would have put up more of a fight on the football front considering basketball really isn't much of a money maker.

Sources close to CU have told CBS4 Sports the Buffs are projected to be in a 6 team division in the new Pac-10. The Buffs will be joined by USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State and probably Utah, which is expected to receive an invitation to join the Pac-10.

If the division ended up as Cal,UCLA, Stanford, USC, AZ, ASU & OR,OSU,WASH,WAZZOU, COL, UTAH the Ducks will win that north division every year.

The Ducks might have a bit of a run, but Washington is on a good path to rebuilding it's program, Oregon St. has made noise in the past couple years and Utah isn't a pushover and will take a big step forward recruiting wise now that they are part of a major conference.

I don't think Utah will be much of a threat at first in the pac-12. Since 2000, there something like 1-7 against pac-10 teams on the road. That record looks even worse considering they had to play maybe two tough teams per year then beat up on Air Force, Colorado St, New Mexico, San Diego St, UNLV, Wyoming, Iowa St, San Jose St who aren't all that great. The only real gimme in the pac is Wazzou, so it'll be interesting to see how they fair when they have to play in tough games every week. Eventually they could get good.
Yeah Washington is rebuilding it's program, but their recruiting class last year was nothing special, and what happens when Jake Locker leaves next year. That's gonna be a huge blow to them.
Oregon State is a good program. Mike Riley seems to work wonders every year with below average recruits.

In the last 10 games, Utah is 7-3 against Pac-10 teams.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5298238
They also beat Cal in the Poinsettia Bowl in 2009 and Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl (granted they lost to Oregon early last year).
Utah is a legit program despite recruiting in competition with BYU in Utah and not being able to advertise membership in a big conference. That changes now. I expect really significant growth from them. Also, this year they play Pitt at home, Notre Dame in South Bend and BYU at home. Should be a good measuring stick to see where theyre at.

There's no debating that Utah is a legit program, I just don't think they'll contend right away. Sure they've done well against pac-10 teams lately but it's not hard to beat a good team at home when your schedule is cupcake, cupcake, cupcake, semi-decent team, cupcake, cupcake, legit challenge, cupcake, cupcake, semi-decent team, bowl game that the other team doesn't care about. Like I said they've done poorly on the road against the pac-10 in the last decade with their only victory coming in 2004 against an eventual 3-8 Arizona team.
Pitt, ND, TCU and BYU are all great teams but the rest of their games are gimmies. Getting ready for 2-3 tough games a year is a lot easier than having to play in one every week.

Thats my point about BSU too. Yea they are good but lets see them run the gauntlet in the pac10 or sec with out a loss. Isn't going to happen. You can scheme for one big game a year and it worked last year in Boise.
Little boys want big respect but when you only pick one fight a year you're not going to get any.

Don't worry about utah as they will fair better then Colorado. Utah has a very strong team
This year and will be even better in 2011 when they play Pac 10 competition.
Depth has been the difference between the bigger programs and the "mid majors"
When Urban Meyer coached Utah he said the same thing. They will run the first
String out against anyone it is when the injuries pile up that trouble hits.
Since the
Sugar bowl win depth hasn't been an issue for Utah. Good recruits have come
Into the program. Since the Pac 10 announcement the coaching staff has received
50 calls from recruits interested in playing at Utah. Coach whitt will have great teams
On the field challenging for the conference title.

Washington is on the rise. I don't think Oregon's reign over the 4 NW schools is going to last much longer.

Maybe if their players stop getting arrested. Masoli is suspended this whole year. I don't think they will be that good without him. Obviously the change isn't til next year, even then a lot can change in a year.

Masoli was an absolutely terrible quarterback though. He could run like a power back but his passing left tons to be desired. Chip Kelly has a pretty good track record with qb's so I'm not to worried there.
Sure Washington did improve last season but they could have easily ended up 2-10 if Matt Barkley had played for USC, the controversial interception against Arizona been called the other way, and Jahvid Best played for Cal. Until Washington can put a decent defence on the field I don't think they'll be able to beat the Ducks or Beavers.
