I got the second last key at EB Games in the SE. So much for my productivity...

I suck so much at this game... but I won my first placement game because the other guy quit within the first minute. Oops.

Still in Copper league though.

I scored a key last night. I wasn't even looking for one, someone just gave it to me.

Anyway... I downloaded, installed, etc. Does the single-player stuff not work? The zerg rushes of SC1 pretty much killed my desire to ever play another MP SC session... but is that all the Beta is? Just the MP side?

Single player is disabled at the moment. So far, Blizzard has only released MP and the map editor for testing.

On the bright side, I haven't found zergling rushes to be a huge problem in SC2. Reaper cheese on the other hand...

I'm loving SC2. I find I am better at it than I was at SC1. I have won a couple FFA games, which for me is huge... and I am doing well in 1v1. Running at about .500

Zerg rushes can be easily countered if you know what you are doing. Most maps have your base set on a hill with a ramp. Every good player knows that you can block it off with buildings. If you are zerg, you'll have to be a little more creative but Zerg vs Zerg rushes aren't as effective anyway.

The beta is completely multiplayer only because they mainly want to work out the dynamics and balancing of MP which is the main reason people will be buying and playing this game for the next 10 years like Starcraft 1.

My computer, which is slightly better than the minimum requirements doesn't run the game.

Click on a building...wait 2 seconds....click to begin training a unit....wait 2 seconds.

I end up having 1000s of spare resources because I literally can't spend it fast enough. Although I did win one practice game!

Have you messed with the settings at all?

I really want to try this game, but am not going to fork out the $60 to do so because I will probably be in the same situation as you. I'll wait until a demo or something arrives.

What are your actual specs?

The min. requirements for the beta are actually really low. This is the equivalent of a computer from 8 years ago.

• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7

• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor

• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7

• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card

• 1024x768 minimum display resolution

• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)

To prevent zergling rush or reaper rush, make sure you scout your opponent early in the game. For terran, build a supply as soon as you get your 9th scv, then scout with that scv after finishing the supply. Protoss, make your 9th probe and build a pylon with it and then scout. Zerg, make your 10th drone (and make your overlord after the 10th drone) and then scout with that drone as soon as it finishes. If you see a pool that is at least 50% complete by the time you see their base, its a zergling rush so prepare for it. If you see terran with a refinery and an early barrack going for tech add on, its a reaper rush.

The first wave of zergling rush can be easily killed with your workers. When they come for your workers, make sure you get a good surround on those zerglings before attacking or 6 of them could take out your entire base. Make sure you keep producing units at barracks in case more zerglings arrive. Also when you're playing against zerg, make sure you make your entrance 1 block by building if your protoss, or completely shut it off if you're terran. This will stop any more zerglings from coming in after the first wave.

Reaper rushes are really annoying if you're protoss. As for zerg, you don't need to do anything other than a queen and a couple zerglings (but if he's massing reapers, get speedlings or put up a crawler or two). As for terran, start getting marines right away and mauraders if you can (reapers barely do any damage against mauraders). As for protoss, as soon as you scout the reaper rush, you need to place down a cybernetics core as soon as possible since only counter against reaper rushing is stalkers. When cybernetics completes, chronoboost your barrack and get a stalker out asap.

Why did that part have to exist? My 4 year old laptop is apparantly extremely outdated...

Mine is 5 years old and my specs are closer to the recommended. Everything is good minus video card.

That part is not your problem. In most cases, I doubt your laptop graphics are up to snuff to be equal to:

128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card

For those who asked about my computer:
My computer is basically the minimum specs.

Windows XP
2.2Ghz Pentium IV
1GB RAM
128MB NVidia GeForce FX 5200

Running the game with everything on the bare minimum just doesn't quite work.

I think all the beta keys are gone, but to pre-order you only have to put down $5 not the whole $60. (At least that's how it was at EB Games)

Beta ends at the end of may.... sounds like it'll be coming back though probably in July before the release date.
