Personally, I always thought the street hotdogs were the most overrated food in NY. I'd much rather go to Dogmatic in Union Square or Crif Dogs in the East Village. Or hell, Grays Papaya!

Ha, yeah the street cart dogs are terrible (exception for the cart at 55th and Madison that grills them) but they're so quintessential NYC.
The only thing I miss from the UES is Papaya King, that's a good dog.

Don't you remember Seinfeld (the scene where George is in bed with his dad)? It's the Russian (and I guess also Yiddish) name for buckwheat porridge.

Always wondered who ripped off who with their shtick, Grays Papaya or Papaya King. Enjoy them both...they were one of the first places I ate in NY, so will always have a special place in my stomach.

That's good news, I've had russian women. They're more than I can handle.
I don't plan on being anywhere else in June. Hopefully we can get together to watch the Flames in the final.

Welcome back to Calgary Table. Hope the drive was good (hard to not have fun on a cross country trip in a Porsche!
As for New York - a couple of good eats I had on my last trip:
Shake Shack. mmmm.
Grimaldi's Pizza (touristy and long line, but moves fast and is worth it)
Eataly - big Italian market type place with 3-4 restaurants.

Ha, you'd think so, but remember I was on low-profile summer performance tires in November.....great when it's warm, simply terrible when it's below freezing and the roads are icy. I was the slowest car on the road from North Dakota on....definitely had a few hairy moments after the snow hit.
Glad you enjoyed those 3 restaurants. Big fan of them all...

The Russian women in Russia were great. The ones here... Never mind, I'm happily married and Mrs Impaler is travelling with me.

Another little bump - any comments re The Lombardy? It seems to have very good reviews.

I also recommend Serendipity III for the Frozen Hot Chocolate. Very eclectic place, but it was worth the trip for us (we hit it after visiting the Met all day).

Entirely too close to my office for me to feel comfortable
Seems like a nice place, although I've never been inside. The location is convenient, a short walk to a variety of subway lines.

I've spent the whole afternoon now reading the New York forum on egullet. I want to book a trip back there just for the food, it is so amazing.

How does it compare location-wise to the Salisbury?

Not all that different, it's a little bit further from Central Park (an extra couple of blocks) but you're still in basically the same area. I don't think you'd notice all that much difference in terms of getting around to places, you're still within a couple blocks of most subway lines. Unless there are any particular places you think you might want to be particularly close to I don't think it makes much difference which of those two you choose.

The Lombardy is a bit better reviewed, has a kitchenette and throws in breakfast, so we'll go with that I think, especially given we have Jr in tow... I will come by your office to watch you work...
