If you liked the slick feel of the $100 bill, just wait until you get your hands on the $50.
The Bank of Canada is tossing a new polymer bank note into circulation Monday, the latest instalment in the nation's shift to plastic currency.
Curses, that was today. I wasn't on the ball.

I hate the bloody things, they stick together and unless you are very carefull you will give over an extra hundred you didn't intend, I mentioned this to my bank (after my builder told me as I gave him 1100 instead of the 1000 I intended) and the bank told me it is actually looking like it will be something of a problem.

I haven't had a crisp, new bill in Australia yet but I presume it's the same thing as the new Canadian bills. As soon as the bills become a little bit used they have essentially the same feel and consistency as the old paper money. They don't stick but also they don't tear and don't get ruined in the wash.

I hope at some point Canada also follows the Australian model and remove pennies and include GST in the point of sale price.

"Paper" money is made out of cotton and doesn't get ruined in the wash either.

Might not get totally demolished, but it's not the greatest for them. You also have to wait for the money to dry somewhat before you use it. While the plastic money can be worn in while swimming or put in the wash and comes out totally unfazed.

Washing paper money has no adverse effect on it whatsoever. About a year ago, I found a $10 bill sitting in a mud puddle, and took it home and threw it in with a load of laundry, and it came out as good as new.

Yes, plastic is more durable, but paper money won't fall apart if you put it through the wash like regular paper will.

I didn't hear about this, but the Mint has released new Loonies and Tonies with increased security measures in both.

I'm more interested in the MintChip to get rid of cash currency completely. If I can just swipe or tap to pay for things at retail and online, etc. it would be much nicer. I've been to other countries and cities where they have more elaborate cash card systems and they are convenient.

Yeah they're running a contest for the MintChip thing and I've been trying to think of something to enter.

having the Vimy memorial on the $20 is awesome, but i really don't see the point of keeping the queen on there still. if we have to, couldn't we at least use a better, less wrinkly portrait of her?

The Queen in the clear part of hte bill looks weird - the roofline of Parliament makes it looks like her head is at waist level and has legs right below it.

Like Krang.
