I know, isn't unbelievable how people have differing opinions, and how you can't just make a statement and have everyone be in complete agreeance with you?

Like i said i wasn't trying to cut anyone who cheers for them down -- just stating my opinion. Some people have challenged it, so im defending it.

The premise behind it is not a circus. It was built and is maintained by men and women with a lot more vision than you.

Canada's Own The Podium kind of goes against the whole "just being there is enough" mentality which is why I personally disagree with the program. The increase funding and coaching is a great thing for development but not at the expense of becoming a purely medal or you've failed mindset.

Yeah some people can take it over the top just like anything else, but our country rarely has something that the whole country can rally behind.

Ahah. Well, fine, you caught me. I wasn't being completely forthcoming when i said i wasn't trying to cut anyone down. But, it's a forum, its for opinions and public discussion.
I'm not saying that what these people doing isn't physically challenging. Dare i say -- impressive? But so is the flying trapeze. And who gives a about the flying trapeze? Next to nobody.. and they shouldn't because its ridiculous.

Trapeze artists don't think so. And last time I looked Cirque du Soleil was one of the hottest tickets in Vegas and recognized around the world, and it includes trapeze

I know that the Olympics isn't actually a circus or intended to resemble one in anyway. The fact that it does is an accident.

There's no but, you cut everyone down, and knew it, and then denied it. End of story.

... that I really needed this break from Flames hockey. I think my stress levels were at an unnatural high before the Olympics, this has been much more fun!

Yah, Vegas, which is where it belongs with all the other tacky cheesy sideshow crap Vegas has to offer. If it snowed in Vegas you could probably go there and watch people skiing around shooting things too.

Just to try another tack...
Are you proud of our Canadian soldiers and the job they are doing in Afghanistan?
By your logic, I assume you are not.

Do you have kids?
Are you proud of them when they accomplish something even though you yourself did not partake in the accomplishment?
Your logic is really stupid

Did you just suggest that a parent, in no way, partakes in some of their childrens accomplishments? Think about your own logic before you attack someone elses. But lets say i was dumb enough to have children at 22 and that, aside from, you know, providing the sperm that resulted in them being conceived in the first place, i had nothing to do with some stupid little en-devour of theirs. I want to say that i wouldn't care but i think when it comes to children theres something more than national pride involved. It's chemical... so yah, unfortunatley, i might get excited when my kids do dumb things that i dont give a about.

I would really like to know what you do for a living jhunt, because to disregard these athletes accomplishments as folly and a waste of time, it must be something special.
These athletes sacrifice everything to do something that they love, there's not many bobsled millionaires, i can tell you that, but it doesn't matter, because they get to wake up every morning and do something that makes them happy,
I'm sure that seems strange, as happy people seldom chatise others for being happy, and that speaks volumes about your personality I'm sure.
Can you name any other event that pulls the entire world together in peace? Anything that can do that in this day and age is worthwhile, this much i know. These athletes have the power to change the world for the better, by just showing up and performing, if you don't think that is worth every penny you're outlook on the world must be very negative indeed.

Yes, its something special indeed. A gathering of people who come to drink and have sex so much that they need to have emergency condom shipments sent it. Lets not kid our selves. These people aren't in the streets holding hands singing koombayah. This is a competetion in which countries send their athletes to participate because they think that somehow winning a medal makes them better in someway. "Own the Podium". Yeah, that sounds really peaceful. It's not like the Olympics is some evil thing either. It's just thats it's not very important, like the athletes accomplishments(to anybody other then themselves and their families/friends), and aside from the gold that the mens hockey team is going to win against the states on sunday.... 99.9% of canadians will forget any of this even happened about a week after the olympics is over.

So? You're still cheering and celebrating someone else's accomplishments. You have nothing to do with the Flames' success so why do you enjoy it?

Well, I'm a season ticket holder and a devout fan. So i provide money to the cause consistently. These large crowds of people haven't contributed a dollar to any of these athletes.. they only care about them for about 2 weeks every 4 years.
