This game has been a long time coming.
Also, the City of the Edge of Never is an awesome episode/mission!

How's the overall gameplay? I missed out on the beta but i'm on the fence about buying the game.

Last night I spent some time hunting Birds of Prey and other battleships with a friend....damn they got the space battles right. So intense, and so much fun. Amazing.

Someone hit Admiral...and there was nothing there. Not one quest, not one raid, not one anything.

That's Cryptic's response.
Anyways, I'm done ripping on this game. I do sincerely hope that people that bought the game enjoy it. I love MMO's, but seeing them fail over and over repeating the same mistakes just bothers me to no end.

2 of my wow addicted buddies dropped $200 for lifetime memberships. Once I heard it was everyone with his/her own ship I lost interest.
Back to Civ4

I can see it now
"Captain's log supplemental, I Captain Ginormous Member, Captain of the USS Dateless am under attack and expect to die soon"
Disposable Yeoman 1 - "Captain another ship has entered the sector, its the U.S.S. ######bag"
Captain Member - "Awesome to the max . . . hail them"
Other Captain - "This is Captain used Condom of the U.S.S. Douchbag, can I be of assistance?"
Captain Member - "Are you a girl"
Captain Condom - "What errrrr yes, give me your stuff and I'll save you"
Captain Member - "Can we go for a coffee and some virtual sex at DS9"
Captain Condom (A fat 45 year old single man from New York responds) - "Sure I'm errr a hot chick what are you wearing"
Disposable Yeoman - "Captain another federation ship has warped into the system, registry reads U.S.S. Butt Ripper"
Virtual Klingons - "Ok, this is gay . . . retreat"

Yeah I installed the game and went do do a errand while it was on the character creation screen. 40 Minutes later I came back, watched the intro, then turned up the video settings to see what my GTX 280 could render; Tabbed out to check my GPU temperature..........
The bloody card was red lined @ 105 C for the last 45 minutes at 80% fan speed.
You have been warned. Thank God it was only a 10 day trial pass.

The video card issue can be fixed by setting a maxfps. They really should not have set it to try and max out your system.

The missions make you feel like you are playing an episode of star trek, and they develop an ongoing story. There have been some that playing it out to level 45 (which is the cap right now), but that is because they play 18 hours a day and skip past all the content of the episodes and probably dont spend much time exploring.
This is a new game, so there will be much more content to come, but as it stands right now, I could play this game for a year and not get bored. You can go to a star cluster in the galaxy and look for inhabited systems to explore. When you go to the system, it is generated by their software to be unique, so you are not playing the same thing twice. As you get further along in the game, the missions become more complex. For example, if it is just a mission where you fly around a planet's rings looking for mineral samples/alien artifacts, you may get jumped by cloaked romulans. Or when you are on a planet studying alien monoliths, you may also have to fight off a hostile race who wants to use the data to create new weaponry.
There are also fleet missions, where you fight with other people, or defend the sector missions, where you team up with other players to fight off enemy contacts, and there are patrol missions where you go to various planets within a sector and fight hostile races.
You can also breed tribbles and sell the rarest ones for energy credits if you want. Some tribbles give you buffs for petting them.
Cryptic has a lot of new content planned for the game, and with it shattering their expectations, I expect their budget to get increased. Since this is about star trek, it will also have a lot of loyal players.
I am loving this game. I am more addicted to it than I am with Civ4, and that is saying something.

Can you execute your crewmembers for dereliction of duty. Or put them in the agonizer booth for trying to steal your command.
Does the Captain have a Captain's woman.
Man it would be awesome if you had access to the mirror universe.

I had to fight terrans from the alternate universe, and even their little Miranda just pummeled me. (that is the ship you start with)
There is only one server.
I think I mentioned it before, but my handle is @st4rseed. I have been playing like crazy during my week off. I worked pretty much all of december, so I only have about one week of work plus 2 days in a four week period.

My videocard was also hitting past 100°C on STO's beta. Stupid engine. It's overly taxing for the low end graphics it provides.
Starseed seems to really like this game. Good for him, but I think I am an objective player who really wanted to love this game and I played the Beta to Commander rank and completed all the Fleet Actions that are currently in the game. In the first week, I highly enjoyed it and was considering purchasing it. I then came to my senses in the 2nd week when the grind kicked in I and realized the game was very bad with very little potential to improve.
The missions do not feel like episodes to me. They feel like the same mission over and over and over and over again. There is no variation at all. The only mission that I enjoyed was defeating the Doomsday Machine and playing some of the Fleet Actions but even those got very repetitious.

You start with one of three lower tiered ships. You can use different parts of each ship to customize it, but you cannot use the higher tiered ships until later in the game.

There is only one server but everything is heavily instanced unfortunately because the architecture they built this on is not very good.
That's the one thing that I think might have saved the game for me, if all those players were all in the same server and instance at once, but instead you are broken up into chucks where for all intents and purposes, the universe you are in might have only 5-10 other players at the same time. The other people are all there, but you cannot see or interact with them since they are playing on another virtual server (another instance).
It made for a very empty universe where I kept going into missions and never finding any other players there - therefore my issues with the game being so single player oriented.

Exactly how I feel, I wanted to love this game so much. The biggest problem is the stupidity of their overheating really good video cards, for what I'd like to call very average graphics except for the space which is pretty nice.
But the game play is so boring, its the same things over and over. I decided to try Federation this time around at the early start and couldn't believe how bored I was, the last straw was a pve mission on a planet where my away team would always bug and not come with me no matter what I did.
I don't get what people find fun with this game, it has some cool stuff but 80% of it is repeated quests, overheating video cards, people finding cheap ways to level fast and tons of glitches.

I am enjoying the game so far. I am not very far in, only to Lieutenant 5. I am enjoying the lore and spend a lot of time reading all the quest text, conversations ect.
I dont think this will kill WoW for me, but it will be a nice way to take some time off.

The only thing I expect to come close to WoW is the The Old Republic. That being said I haven't been following it.
