El's is cool and has an arseload of speciality roles that are unique to Calgary. It's a tiny place and reasonably priced.

Russic, I also would recommend Zipang over Towa because I find there stuff to be really fresh. Towa is good too but nothing special.

It may be cliched and I know a lot of people hate what is really popular and trendy but for MY money I still love Globefish on 14st. It's my favourite restaurant in town.

I did towa anyway and here's my quick review:

excellent atmosphere, fish was delicious. Rolls are largely proportioned which would be awesome in a large group but it was just the wife and I. We could really only do 3 rolls and one of them kinda sucked sadly. Just your basic spider roll, but it may have had a tablespoon of mayo per piece. The firecracker roll on the other hand (tempura jalapeno + smoked salmon) was among my all time favorites.

I give towa an 8. Of the places I've tried I still prefer Globefish and Kinjo. Based on the thread I'll definitely try Zipang next.
