Like a few have said, Calgary is somewhere in the middle. There are definitely cities more progressive than us, and there are similar size cities more ''racist'' than us. I think we come up short to places like Toronto and Montreal and obviously New York and other large US cities, (dunno about Vancouver to tell you the truth though, seen some bad things there) but we probably come up better than some pockets and places in the States around the same population. And obviously a lot better than many of the of smaller cities in both countries.

I do think we get a worse rap than we deserve sometimes. But there are areas we can definitely improve on.

I don't want to revisit this as it was nothing but bad times but the bars/clubs in Calgary are definitely racist and I have experienced this first hand.

I'm not going to defend TheU's words here, but his opinion is rooted in some reality. Winnipeg does have a major issue with drugs and gangs related to the nearby reserves. That's one aspect where Calgary (and Edmonton) is actually rather well off in it's relationship with the nearby reserve. In our case, our only real problem is that they jerked us around on a ROW negotiation for a couple decades.

It also helps when we don't have a version of Winnipeg's North End. I'm sure if we had a similar area with similar problems the same attitudes would be found in more abundance.

The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please.

That's only because that fat fata Vickers owns 90% of these establishments in this town, this has nothing to do with Calgary being racist.

That's because the Whiskey's owned by Asians!
