Highway 697 southwest of La Crete. This would be the ice bridge over the Peace River. Semis go over this all the time in the winter, and I doubt the ice is much more than six inches thick.

Lemme tell you though, the first time you go over, it is interesting...

Worst drive I've ever had in terms of visibility. When you get into open road, such as top of a hill where there's nothing around to break up the wind, you can't see diddly squat. But it's not slippery out, just all that loose snow is a pain.

The drive was the second worst drive I ever had in Alberta. The roads were covered in ice and the wind was blowing me around. At times I could not see even the light from my headlights. The off ramp at the south end of Airdrie was not cleared, and I had to drive through 2 feet of snow >.<

I made it OK.

I love this so much that I set my alarm for 1am so I can go have some fun!

Anyone notice that the large majority of airport cancellations are Air Canada? Why do they have such a higher percentage of flight cancellations than the other airlines?

Took 52nd st from the NE because I thought it may be a little quicker to Copperfield and got caught in some serious traffic between 50ish ave and Glenmore. Took an hour. Turned east on Glenmore and took 84th st through the sleepy hamlet of Shepard and got stuck in a line of cars because someone was stuck in a drift.

Finally made it to Copperfield and McIvor blvd is ridiculous. It is easily the worst road in the city for snow drifts. The snow blows in for miles and piles up on the road. I have a Jeep Liberty with brand new all weather tires and I don't think that I would even attempt to go that road now and it's the only road out from my house. I should go take pictures tomorrow to post.

Any excuse to cancel a half-empty flight (like the one I took from Van to Calgary last month). They'd rather pack a fewer number of flights full.

Percentage of scheduled flights that are cancelled, not total number of cancellations.

Toodles!

I'll post what I find on my adventure when I get home.
It's been almost 6 hours since Jayems posted this, anyone want to start planning his wake?

Yeah, he hasn't updated the Calgary Puckers thread, and we have a game tomorrow. Jayems is normally an updating ninja when it comes to our games. I think it's pretty safe to say he's passed on.

Are you seriously trying to tell me a semi truck drives on 6 inches of ice?

Maybe if theres ground underneath the 6 inches But I'll tell you right now even a car will go threw 6 inches.

Ya, 6 inches would be rated no more than half a ton.

No..at least I wouldn't drive a pickup on at least 12 inches. I did a lot of ice fishing and nobody i knew would drag a shed out on the ice until it was 16-18. 6 inches is calling for big trouble even on a snowmobile.

I agree, 6 inches is definitely not enough.

I'm just going off government safety suggestions. This is driving... a stationary load I think will decrease the strength by 50%, so you would need 12 inches for a half ton shed.
