I dunno, three hours sounds like a nice flowing round of golf to me. Anything in and around the city on a weekend is about 4.5 hrs and it feels like you are always waiting to shoot. Waiting at the tee box, waiting in the middle of the fairway, waiting to approach the green. The worst is the bottle necks that happen after a par 5 meets a par 3. Sometimes you'll have a group on the green, one waiting to shoot and another sitting in their carts. So frustrating.

Haha well I guess I'm just the exception here. I like to take my time and chat it up, I don't really care if there is a wait in front... in fact I kinda like it. If I wanted to be rushed I would play some hockey. But I make sure I'm keeping up with the group ahead of me so I'm not a dick like that haha

I'll weigh in again. I think fotze hit it right with the beginner/fast take. They aren't mutually exclusive. People who don't play ready golf piss me off. take some time before you actually get to your shot to think about what club you might use. if you and your buddy are sharing a cart, drop him off with his club and go to your ball and get ready to hit. I was playing in front of guys last weekend, and these two clowns had balls virtually side by side. One dude sat in the cart while the other guy hit. then he got out and lined up his shot. I nearly lost my marbles.
As for, playing from the right tees. I couldn't agree more. My buddies think playing from the whites is for pussies. I had to explain that playing from the whites at a real course (slope of over 125 from the blues) is too hard for us to play from the blues and we shoult play whites. Playing whites at Maple Ridge is not the same as playing whites at Silvertip.

I played 2X yesterday,
1st 11:30 - 2:15. Had to wait behind 4somes for a few holes twice in the game, before they let me through. was aggravating.
2nd 2:30 - 6:30. Started out slow, and I joined a 2some ahead of me, but things got rolling after awhile. 4 hours, can't complain about on a fairly busy day.
At the end of the day, I was reading a memo or whatever above the urinal about pace of play. It was really good and addressed the thought of, "I paid good money to play here, I'll take as much time as I want and enjoy myself". It then went on to talk about golf etiquette concerning pace of play, and tips how to speed up your game. Pretty basic stuff, choose your club before your shot, don't walk back and forth to your cart, ready putt etc.
At the end of it, it was basically saying, partly the speed of play dictates, the cost of the game. If everyone just took their time, prices would go up as less people would be able to play. If everyone played in less than 4 1/2 hours at 7 minute intervals, prices could be kept under control. Makes sense to me.
So think about that, the next time you're a hole behind the group in front of you. You are driving up the costs to play.

I agree, there are some basic golf etiquette rules pepople need to be aware of. One that seems totally lost is, if you are the first to finish up a hole, then you grab the flagstick and hold it so that you're ready to put it down once every one finishes up. It's not bad when no one is on the course but when there are people at the 150s waiting to hit on the green, it makes a difference.

I sounds like you were a single. How do you think this effects the costs to play. You are taking a timeslot that could be filled by a foursome, hence more revenue per tee-time. You are suprised as a single that you are held up by a foursome?? I would always let a single play through if they were waiting, but I think you are a little skewed on this one.
Singles are a golf courses worst nightmare. Most courses will make you join another group.
I am a huge supporter of ready golf, but as a single you really can't expect NOT to be waiting once in a while.

Slow golfers who won't let faster groups play through are a courses worst nightmare. They also create headaches for the course marshalls.

Golf etiquite says you let the faster golfers play through. And it doesn't matter if they are a single or not. Yesteday it was just the 2 of us and 2 groups of senior ladies let us play through. Thankfully members of a golf club understand this concept.

Single player? yes, or single marital status? no. My wife and kid understand I will golf 3 or so times a week. They actually don't mind me being out of the house. We are not joined at the hip.

Yes, I am playing as a single quite often, but I am also a member, so really I get away with a lot more than, when I was a single and not a member. Also I always walk on, they won't book a single, so you are not taking a spot from anyone. Yesterday, it went 3some, 3some, 2some, me, 3some. There's no way the 3some should've been able to keep up to me, but the first 3 some in the pack was slowing everyone else up, so from the perspective of the 3some behind me, they were waiting on a single. I can see them getting annoyed with that. I joined the 2some in front of me, at hole 7, and we actually never saw the 3some behind me again, they fell behind by about 2 holes.
As a single I will wait quite often, behind a pack of 3 or 4 groups, that's understandable, but if you are group in front of me, and there is no one in front of you, you should let me through.
