FYI, NYC is buzzing about the visit. Every paper has it on the front page and people seem pretty excited about it. I haven't seen or heard one bit of negative spin on it, although I haven't seen fox news today.
|
And because they're getting 'paid'....it means that going to NY cost MONEY, as far as the security is concerned.
You can bet your ass that the costs were written down too. I'm sure the Secret Service keeps a very detailed analysis of all their missions.
Gas, vehicles, reservations, hotel rooms, food, everything. You got 15-20 agents being sent ahead, and another 15-20 who protect Obama while he is there. It all costs money, and its all written down.

Of course it did, but you can't place all of those costs on this trip. Many of them are fixed costs that are being paid every day regardless of the travel schedule of the President. Hence my point on the advance team, you can't place the salary costs of those individuals on the trip as they would be accruing no matter what.

I'm not talking about the salary costs.
I'm talking about the cost to fly up there, the hotel rooms, the food, the traveling, the flight back....and then Obama flying up there with his own detail.
Salary is a fixed cost, like you said.....but that is not the only thing costing money on these missions.

No arguments there. When presidents move it costs a whole lot of money, but any outrage over this is ridiculous. Every president goes on "social" trips.

But do you see those costs reaching $2M?

|
There is no difference.
Security costs money in both places.
|
Really? You think the cost of securing a restaurant and theatre is the same as securing a baseball stadium?

My conservative estimate of the cost of those sandwiches (I bet the glutton had TWO and his wife had one too!!! That's three!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is at least $5000 per. That's $15,000 for sandwiches. No, I won't provide a link to verify this. I shouldn't need to. Use your brain! Idoit!
I also bet it was a union-made sandwich, making it even more needlessly expensive and reducing the efficiency of the economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, let me get this straight:
Spending money in a recession - on some of the "extra" things in life (dinner out, theatre or whatever it was, heck maybe the 6-pack he grabbed for the flight back home or something ) - is bad?

Even the restaurant they went to had meals reasonably priced at like $30-$50 for entrees, however, they did buy the most expensive tickets in the house! Show off!

The sandwiches were actually made by outsourced workers in India for $0.30. Obama spent at least 10 kajillion dollars and he hates American workers at the same time!!! Not before he personally fired a coal mine worker.... then kicked a puppy. Which was then made into a sandwich...
Granted this isn't all that far off from the Anti-Bush diatribes that we are continually subjected to....

That is a bold statement to be making unless you're just comparing that they both like to do social things. Their policies, etc. are very different. That's cool if you disagree with both, but putting them in the same boat is way off in my opinion.

He's putting the jack ass people who make a big deal over everything the president does in the same boat. I am as liberal as they come, but I could not stand the crap and hatred that got thrown Bush's way. Now Obama's president and its the same people who defended Bush from the asinine crapslinging that are tossing it Obamas way. These people are the reason idiots like Limbaugh and Olberman are rich. All this does is distract from real issues and divide Americans even more.

Let see if he gets past the next 3.5 years first.
I wonder if they had to move his helicopter to close evacuation range?
I know that kneecap used to go everywhere that the president went.
All of the federal agencies including the airforce, hostage rescue and others would have been put on heightened alert as well.
Plus the setting up of a SS command center. It probably wasn't a cheap trip for sure.
Don't really care though, this is minor spending in combination with the amount of money that they've wasted so far during the recession and the automotive crisis.
I think the argument about spending is better focused on those areas.
