Why don't you clarify exactly what it is in your mind I was saying. I NEVER said it doesn't happen and doesn't warrant further investigation. All I was mentioning was that by looking at a SIN card you can determine whether it is of a temporary or PR/citizen as an information tool.

Good discussion Bagor, I appreciate it. The bolded part is all am I saying. It provides someone with very little info, and in the case of a foreign national, even less info, only that the person is a foreign national. Which, If I remember correctly, the person in this case did say she was a foreign national, thus, the officer did not obtain any new information if a SIN card was provided.

And all I'm saying is that (and we don't know) if her SIN card had begun with a non 9 number then the officer could have concluded (if he felt it was legit) that she was entitled to stay in the country as long as she wanted with no preconditions thus no need to investigate immigration status further. If it began with a 9, I accept your point that depending on the officers judgement further investigaion might be warranted.

I accept and admit it's not the end all but the information there can be used as a tool for a preliminary process of elimination to save time and resources if you will. I'm sure there are a lot of foreign nationals out there with PR/citizen SINs just as there are with temporary SINS.
