I used to work with a couple of Calgary Stampeders when I was in my first year of University and working at Greyhound.

Peewee - his real name is Demetrius, but if you called him that he'd be pretty pissed off at you, and being a huge guy, I generally let him call himself whatever he wanted.

The Big Chill, Childress. Not too much to say about him, we was either on light duties all the time or off work hurt.

The entire 2004 Calgary Flames team, I was at the Hooters on Macleod trail after they lost and the whole team busses up to this Hooters just absolutely gunned. I spent most of the time they were there speaking awkwardly with Oliwa, that guy man....has problems....

I've met Phaneuf a couple times, both on U of C campus, hes a pretty cool guy, I only said hi a couple times, once essentially just in passing. I was thinking about something else and then saw Phaneuf walk out of the Human Performance Lab during the off-season and I looked up and said, "Hey Dion," just very surprised. He shook my hand and I went on my way.

Theres others, there not particularly important or anything, I'm the farthest thing from a celebrity obsessor or anything.

I guess one would be this summer, when I was in Belgium, Eric Lamaze was buying a horse from this stable that my sister was working at and I came back from the local town tavern absolutely plastered, they thought it would be a good idea to introduce me to him, it went essentially like this:

"Hi I'm _____, nice to meet you."
"Hi, I'm Eric Lamaze."
"I didnt tell you my last name. ######bag. And I lied."

Then I vomited on his Aston Martin. It was a good time and he was a ######bag.

Just a couple:

Wayne Gretzky - He came to my church when I was 3 or 4. Probably my first memory.

Lanny McDonald - Came to visit my little brother in the hospital.

Rob Corddry - Most of you probably haven't heard of him. He was on the Daily Show and Arrested Development. He did a show at my university. Genuinely funny guy.

Oh and I had lunch with Eric Duhatschek once when my dad wrote for the Herald. Couldn't have been more than 6 or 7.

Oh right I forgot one. Along with David Hasselhoff, I've also met Mekhi Phifer(Eminem's buddy in 8 Mile. He was also in Dawn of the Dead, the guy who's expecting wife ends up turning into a zombie).

I'm actually glad I dont run into more stars. Definitely could care less about them, but when I come across them I seem to get star struck. I remember this August when Drew Brees and Reggie Bush were two feet in front of me, I couldn't blurt out a single word. My legs actually felt shaky haha

I went to high school with Trevor Linden and Chris Osgood in Medicine Hat. Linden was always really cool, but I wouldn't say he knew me personally. A few weeks after he was drafted, he hosted a MASSIVE party on his parents farm. He handed out flyers in all of the high schools in town. Must have been a thousand people there. Just an all around nice guy, even at 18 years old.

Osgood was a pretentious dick.

Raced against Linden last year on my mountain bike. Still a very cool guy. I hate the Canucks but never did dislike him.

I bumped into David Brokie a couple years back while he was incognito and we had a nice little chat about his golf game and such.

Received an autograph from Rocket Richard many years ago. While signing it, he dropped his pen. He then looked at me angrily, and made a grunt like I had just kicked him in the shin. I picked up his pen and he then scribbled something that resembles a vagina on my hockey card.

Thats about it for celebs. Although I would love to meet David Suzuki and throw pennies at him.

Almost all of the 1982 San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Other than that...Rick Nielsen, who is one hell of a nice guy.

Back when I worked in advertising my company did the marketing for an event that Ed and Nomi Whalen were involved in. As such, I had to meet with them a couple of times. Both were two of the nicest, most genuine people on the face of the earth, and they were a tremendously cute couple.

I grew up listening to Ed Whalen and always looked up to him. It was pretty cool to find out that when you actually meet him in person - he was actually as nice as you imagined he would be. Rarely happens that way.

Paul McCartney would be the most famous person I've met but I was only 5 at the time. He's my friend's cousin so we got to see him playing "Hey Jude" on their piano and he gave all the neighbourhood kids a ride around the block in his new Bentley!

Other than that:

DION!
Brett Sutter
Jim Vandemeer
Various pro soccer players that some of you may know:
Kenny Dalglish
Ian Rush
Kevin Keegan
John Barnes
Alan Hansen among others

My wife met Pope John Paul II

the funniest part about Matt Good is that when the reputation for being a dick came out, he jumped all over it and MGB started selling "I hear Matt Good is an ***hole" t-shirts
I really wish I had gotten one of those because they are pretty damn hard to come by now.
I never did get a chance to meet Matt, but I did meet his band at an aftershow, while he was on tour for avalanche (Matt wasnt feeling good so he went straight back to teh hotel)
Pat Steward (who is also the drummer for the Odds) was pretty cool and I talked to him for a good half hour after the show

Met Trent Reznor a few years back here in Calgary, talked to him about driving out to Colorado to see him the year before

Ive also met the members of Incubus the last time they were through town, Sarah Slean back in 2000 or so, and numerous hockey players

A couple of my favorite "famous people" interactions:

Holly McNarland in 2004 when she played the stampede. I had met her a couple of times previously, so that time was able to get a picture of me and her autographed. Afterwards as she was signing autographs she asked where people go after the stampede. We mention that the ship and anchor isnt a bad place to go for a drink and a few of us invite her and the band out.
I dont think anyone actually expected them to show up, but they did so we got a table in teh corner and spent the next 4 hours sitting and around and drinking.
At 2am they get a little hungry and ask if theres anywhere around to go eat, so we all end up at denny's in motel village for "breakfast"

the first time I "met" Mike Commodore was pretty awesome to, if not for the circumstances.
Just after the Flames lost game seven to tampa, a bunch of fans went to the airport to welcome the team back.
While most players went into the airport and piled into cars to get home, Commodore walked righ through the gate and was mobbed by a bunch of fans looking for an autograph.
A cop was standing behind Mike and asked if he "wanted an escort out", to which Commodore turned to the cop and said "no way, Im already home"
I think Commodore stood there and signed autographs for a good 2 hours or so, at basically 5 am in the morning.

This isn't my famous person story, but it's one i've always liked. It happened to a friend of my wife's, who was a real knockout. Probably still is but I haven't seen her for a while.

She was a volunteer during the '88 Winter Olympics, and somehow got assigned to do something with Prince Albert of Monaco fame for a day. They kind of hit it off and I guess he asked her for a date that evening. While dancing, Albert groped one of her breasts. She was rather proud of that, and thereafter referred to that particular breast as The Royal Boob.
