Wolfwood (and BuzzardsWife if you weren't talking about Lexington), do you remember Hawley's Cafe in Claresholm?

But born to Alberta stock, my dad grew up in Claresholm and my mother in Stavely.
We came back to Canada when I was less than a year old.

When I say bawling I mean hysterical, lots of people in the house trying to calm her down, whilst being equally hysterical. Loads of kids going WDF?
Turns out my father and uncle legged it outa there and went to a friends house. He turned up before I went to bed.
I know this is the internet and it's easy to tell a story but all I can say is it's hard to explain the bitterness. I wasn't even there in person but a few years back took my wife and inlaws to the memorial and had to dissappear around the corner for a sob.

I don't know quite how to describe it, but its always very grounding when personal perspective is attached to historical events.
I don't know if that makes sense or not... but thanks for posting this.

I'm 3rd generation Calgarian as well...My Great Grandfather moved here as a teen, and my Grandpa, mom, me (and now my kids) were all born here. People are always surprised when I tell them I was born here, and even more surprised when they hear my mom and Grandpa were as well.

Well, we don't want you either! See if we share our blood sausage and sheep head with you.
(In all honesty, I don't either.)

Ottawa, but really lived in Calgary most of my life. My sister was born here.
We were already living in Calgary, but my dad had to go to Houston for a few months of training with Shell. My mom went back home to Ottawa to have me - the social workers didn't believe her story, and tried to convince her to give me up for adoption.

I was born in Brantford, On.
I quoted your post because my stepfather played goalie for the St. Thomas Maroons in late 70's early 80's and Dorchester was our most hated opponent!
