You are kind of putting a stigma on the situation in relation to the appropriateness. If someone becomes less productive at work, or sports, or something like that, then ya, it's not fair to others. If you are just having a lazy sunday afternoon, or are letting loose on a saturday, it's a little different.
I could never go to work stoned. I need to be at 100% to run my team and to produce for myself. I would never smoke it and go to church... or something like that where it would be obnoxious smelling or disrespectful. I guess it comes down to the almighty "indulge responsibly" for me.
I just don't understand some vendettas people get in to over it. like "Why do you HAVE to smoke weed every time we see a movie?" I'm always like "HAVE to is a strong word. I'm a grown man who chooses to because I enjoy it." And It's only particular kinds of movies, like comedy, sci-fi and action... pretty much any other genre turns into a super-confusing, and boring flick when you smoke it. At that point it's the opposite of "enhanced."

Speaking of smoking weed before a movie....did anyone else wish they could have paused Batman half way through to "top up"?

I'd suggest that what your friends are expressing is that they are not comfortable with what you are doing and wish that you would not do it around them, but they want to spend time with you. They're not saying why do you do it at all - they're saying why do you have to do it around us, and they're well within their right to do so, in my opinion.
And besides, what other kinds of movies are there? Romantic Comedy? Horror/Suspense? Documentary?
Of course, that's my thoughts being completely detached from the situation.

Well... in my circle there are more just the casual smokers, and the once in a while-ers, so it's hard to say they don't appreciate having it smoked around them... especially if we are in my vehicle or outside where it really makes no difference in my opinion.

Ah, I see. Well, maybe they just think it's silly that it happens at the movies for you, I don't know. I mean, that must be expensive, getting the munchies while stuck in a movie theater. I guess we just pick different poisons ... I have to have popcorn at the movies, you have to have something else ...!
To your other point, there's a huge difference between vehicle and outside. I'd be pissed if a friend of mine lit up with me in the car with them.

That IS fair, but if they smoke at other times and just don't want to THIS time, then screw em! hahaha.
To the argument that having a beer is different than a small joint because a joint get you all blitzed or whatever... i don't know what the hell you guys are smoking, because I just get a mellow high out of it... I don't turn into some giggling poop-joking goofball over a couple hoots... I just get mellow. I DO get pretty whacky if I have a FEW joints or a big fatty or something. Or if it's spiced with hash or something like that, then it's goof time.
I've been smoking pot here and there for over 8 years now, more so in the past 2 years, and I've never had any kind of inclination towards any other strand of drug. Hash and Oil are both in the pot family, and I've RARELY even had those LACE a joint. Never tried any chemicals (meth, coke, heroin, extasy, etc), or organic drugs (mushrooms etc) and I never intend to. Well... maybe mushrooms... in the right setting. (ie safe, at a friend's house, with only close friends around.) Even then I don't think I'm interested.

Just tell them you smoke it because of them, you just find it hard to hang out with them sober.
Honestly if they are true friends they won't hold it against you. I have a few buddies who give me a hard time about smoking weed and how it is bad for me yet its okay for them to drink a 6 pack every night.
I think as long as you are not forcing it on them, doing it in their car or home without permission or blowing it in their face they should not be saying anything at all. What you choose to do with your time and body is up to you, they are probably just trying to watch out for a friend but they should not be giving you a hard time too much.

That is called a drinking problem.
Just like you have a toking problem. Anyone who needs to go for a "top up" in the middle of a movie has some issues they need to work through.

Unless you are his Sponsor then whether or not he has issues with smoking pot is none of your business.

Not at all. Smoking a joint is like having a cup of coffee. You want a full cup, not just a sip... and you want to enjoy it throughout socializing, or an activity, not just a fast gulp down before socializing. That's why they serve it in cafes in Holland.

God you sound like my mom!
I was more joking around because of how long the movie was and its not that I HAD to go for another toke its I would have preferred to if I was going to be stoned for a movie why not the whole thing?
I would say I have issues if I "need it" to survive which I do not, unlike crackheads and methheads. When I am at home I would say I smoke about 1-3 joints a night, but I can go weeks and weeks without smoking it when I am on vacation and not have an itch for it.
Kinda to the same point as ATR made is its like having a beer at the hockey game, are you just going to have one and be good for the night? Or are you doing to get up during that second intermission to grab another? Most I would say go grab another....do they have drinking issues? I don't think they do.
To each his own but don't point me out telling me I have issues when you nothing about me or how I live my life! I am quite happy smoking pot and as stated before I show up for work everyday, I go the gym almost every morning and I eat healthy even when stoned.

Judge? That is just my opinion. We all judge people day in and day out.
As for the coffee analogy, wouldn't that run contrary to the point of a bong? You aren't exactly "sipping" a bong, now are you?

Wrong analogy.
They do have a problem if they drink beer almost every single day.

Can't agree with that.
What about European countries where drinking alcohol every day is considered not unusual?

I love pot. I'm stoned right now. I'll probably smoke more later too. It led me to other drugs as well, not to mention experiences I would never have had without embarking on what I hope will be - if not necessarily a long - at least an interesting, vice-ridden life.
Now I'm gonna go have a beer. Or eight.
