Yeah, I was also kind of fantasizing that this might still be around for a couple more rounds. Not that I'm surprised. Propably among my top5 favourites of all time.

VANFLAMESFAN would like be known as TEAM WishWeDidAPornDraft

TEAM WishWeDidAPornDraft is very proud to select with their first pick, Quentin Tarantino's modern gangster masterpiece, Pulp Fiction(Best Picture Category). Winner of the Palm D'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and robbed of the Oscar and many other awards because of Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction revolutionized the way films were written, shot and also re-established a career. Tarantino is the best in the business at writing dialogue and nothing proves that more than this movie here. Who thought conversations about burgers or foot massages could be so damn entertaining.

With such great performances by John Travolta as the uber cool Vincent Vega, Sam Jackson as Jules Winfield and Bruce Willis as Butch the boxer, Pulp Fiction became an instant classic upon release and is still shown in many film classes as a lesson in how to look outside the box.

Multiple plot lines, fantastic dialogue and a stunning soundtrack all propel Pulp Fiction to #6 on IMDB's Top 250 list.

Some classic scenes: NSFW(language)

The Restaurant scene....very underrated

With the 21st Overall pick (I feel like the 88 & 89 Flames), team Hot Buttery Topping is proud to select in the "Black & White" category (while reserving the right to move it to one of the many other categories it could fit into), one of the truly great movies of all time, Casablanca.

When lists of the best movies ever made are compiled, you can be sure that three names will be at the top: Citizen Kane, The Godfather, and Casablanca. To have this movie still available at #21 is a little like drafting an all-time best hockey team and still having Bobby Orr available this late.

Let's just say that if I made my first round pick and Casablanca wasn't on my team, I'd regret it, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of my life.

Bogart is brilliant, Bergman is stunning ("I was informed that you were the most beautiful woman ever to visit Casablanca. That was a gross understatement."), and the rest of the cast is perfect.

Earlier in this thread, it was said that while it was revolutionary for its time, Citizen Kane hasn't aged well (which is a debate for another time), but I don't think you can say that about Casablanca. It is a film about the events of WWII that was made during WWII, but it doesn't feel dated watching it today (other than the fact that it takes place during the 40s), which is probably why there are often discussions about remaking it for modern audiences (who apparently get confused by black & white movies). The script is, at times, funny, sad, heartwarming, and heartbreaking - sometimes all in the same scene.

A war movie without any battles; a serious story with some great humour; and a romance where the hero doesn't get the girl. Casablanca - Here's looking at you, kid.

It's an honour to have this masterpiece on my team.

WARNING: If you haven't seen the movie, the clips may give away the ending - but you've probably seen it hundreds of times before...

Here's were favouite film vs. best film available kicked me in the nuts. Pulp Fiction is easily my favorite movie of all time, but due to the nature of the draft, I couldn't pass up on the Godfather.

Funny enough, I've never seen any of the Godfather movies.

I've only seen the Godfather I and not even in its entirety

Like the Good, Bad, Ugly I've probably seen every scene but not in a single sitting.

Count me among those who were hoping that Seven Samurai might drop a round or two. Excellent pick.

That said, I'm pretty happy with how few of my top choices have been picked so far. On my spreadsheet of 80 (five movies for each of sixteen categories), I've had to cross off only four movies in total, and only one of those (RotK) was my first choice for a given category.

The MacGuffins are proud to select, with the 22nd overall pick in the first round, for entry in the Pre 1960's category:

Vertigo

If I let you change me, will that do it? If I do what you tell me, will you love me?
Yes. Yes.
All right. All right then, I'll do it. I don't care anymore about me.

There are a couple movies that I was surprised to still see available, but I had to select the one movie that helped deeply foster my love of reading film. Arguably Hitchcock's most critically acclaimed movie, this complex story of obsession, control, and desire is one of the best films ever made. The dreamy ambiance Vertigo has filled me with since I first saw it nearly ten years ago has drawn me back to it again and again, and every time I watch it I am always fascinated at how fully engrossed I am. The mark of a great film!

Every scene is filled with so much subtle detail that one can only marvel at how Hitchcock had mastered his craft by this point in his life. Shot in a gorgeous looking old San Francisco, the cinematography is still mind-blowing, with every shot framed perfectly. The movie treads carefully for the first hour or so, but the pacing brought about by the skillful direction and punctuated by a marvelous Bernard Herrman score brings about a yearning induced tension that is unflinching. The tremendous work of Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak in the lead roles should also be noted- much of this movie's power is in its imagery, and there is very little dialogue for a film of this length. Thus, the gestures, intonation, and other non-verbal cues these two actors display are quite crucial to the movie, and they pull it off brilliantly. Add it all up and the sum is quite a memorable masterwork.

Thank you, thank you.

Category = not sure yet. I guess temporarily I will place it in "Pre 1960's." That could change though, so many great classic films that I will probably end up picking another one or two from that time period. But I will add that to my OG post.

Eastern Girl- it's definitely a must-see, but it's one of those films that almost demands repeat viewings. I remember the first time I saw it I was frustrated by the ending, struggling to uncover the significance of many scenes, and generally baffled as to the reason this movie was so lauded. But I almost immediately re-watched it, because it was so damn compelling.

I can't remember if it was my first Hitchcock (might've been), and I was just getting into studying film (on an amateur level, of course). But it can interpreted in so many different ways and there are so many layers to it, that it's one of those films that doesn't hit you over the head like "Pulp Fiction" or "Star Wars," but instead lingers in your mind and captivates your interest.

So, what am I trying to say. Don't be surprised if you find it a bit mystifying upon the first viewing or two- I know I did. Just don't let that discourage you.

With the 23rd overall choice, team Lucky the Donkey is proud to select in the Foreign category: Hero

Released in China in 2002, then the US in 2004, it instantly moved into my top 5 movies of all time. Hands down one of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen. The use of colour to show mood and tone in the movie just amazed me. Combined with a phenomenal story, superbly choreographed fighting and amazing acting you have the makings of what is both the highest grossing and most expensive movie in Chinese film history. The Rashomon-like storytelling leading to the epic ending made me watch this movie two times in a row when I first saw it. I can't say enough about this film, just epic and amazing.

Nameless and Sky fight in the rain:

Broken Sword and Flying Snow storm the Emperor's Palace:

Finally, Broken Sword really likes calligraphy:

I've intentionally not included the ending here. If you haven't seen this movie, go. Now. Some may think this is too early for this pick, but I've yet to see a single movie I have in mind selected, and this is one that I have to have on my list.

I really liked Hero.

My favorite parts were the scenes with Nameless and the emperor.
The king peering at Nameless and 'playing detective' trying to piece the story together to see if it's true or not. The dialogue was wonderful.
