My two cents
the mods here do a good job making this a great forum to participate in. The level of maturity here is much better than some of the other ones that sounds like it's run by 14 year olds. But as other have mentioned, CP is gotten pretty large so it's impossible for just the mods to go through and assign red squares to all the deserving people. If more people would recommend posts (myself included), then some of the more consistent posters would get noticed for their quality (or lack of) of their posts.
Another way to get noticed is just by participating more often (but I'm still talking quality over quantity). I noticed a lot of the posters in the elusive red square clubs are those that are the regulars, and have gotten to know some of the posters.
I'm usually more of an OT poster (and the tech section) and I mentioned before how interesting the variety of opinions and conversations that go on over there.
After that, just reading whatever I post (especially for grammar and spelling as some posters are more unforgiving than others) and taking part more is the strategy I'm doing to maybe get into that club one day. Also, I continue to enjoy being the government (health) insider so I'll post health stuff every so often

^Another point is that a quality post in the off-topic forum stands way less chance of being noticed by a mod.

That board is simply not read as much by us. Most of us keep a very close eye on the hockey forum - but the other boards are not monitered as much unless we get something reported.

So it's almost more important to report a great post in the o/t section than on the main forum - as it is more likely to be overlooked.

Really? I always thought that the OT forum was an essential free for all where no one could get good or bad rep.

While I have contributed some fine work to the OT forum I have also said some horrible, horrible things under the assumption it was a pure amnesty zone.

I tend to let a little more slide in the OT section. However I tend to give more positive skill in the OT section- especially if I see somebody going above and beyond the call of duty to help somebody. (Tech forum comes to mind here.)

The thing to keep in mind is we have a lot of fun in the OT section, but it isn't a free for all.

I feel sorry for the poor guy who tried to pick a fight with you.

Just bumping this thread to say thanks to all the people that have been reporting posts for rep. We've seen a big increase in recommendations - which is great. Keep 'em coming.

I nominated someone for a red square and now they have one, so I feel pretty good about myself.

Someone pat me on the back!!

I'm not picky. I'll take what I can get.
