I'm not sure why you'd find that funny. A person usually gets what they want if they approach the situation from the other person's point of view. The clerk clearly needs a self-serving reason to deliver what he needs. He's providing that. The clerk will not have to clean the counter or her hands after he leaves. He gets his change in his hand. Win/Win.
It's an art. It's diplomacy. It's a skill women across the world arm themselves with. Usually, right before they enter the bedroom with their man and his overinflated ego and his unerring certainty he knows what makes her happy. It's also used to calm international situations.
