It's also a lot closer than the Bow in that picture.

It's not so much Calgary that wouldn't do it in this case as it is the owners/developers of the site (just south of Elbow River Casino). What you see will never get built because the point of these renderings was basically just someone saying "just for curiosity's sake, what if we built some really tall buildings here" without ever intending to actually do it.

Something substantial will probably be built there at some point though, just not this big.

I'd think Calgary would be all over that like a fat kid on cake if someone actually was going to pay for it and build the actual building.

True, frinkprof is right. Calgary probably would do it, but it'd be the owners of the land who would decide against it.

I believe the intent from the property owners was to test the maximum density you could physically accommodate on this site given the needs for parking garages, site size, density limits and so forth. From there, they will design something that is I'm sure much smaller and which is matched to the market they believe they can sell to in this location.

Is it an office building, or a condo?

Can I tag along for the next tour? I'll pay you in juice coupons and Chuck E. Cheese coasters. Seriously though.

The new boots on people always say nerd

Petro Can's building has been there for 20+ years but I still wonder about that sliding, dish thing on the top ?

Same with new hard hats. Mine is mint with un-damaged orientation stickers. I get picked on all the time for it.
