I hope your talking about guys at the gym and not just guys in general. Any guy who wear lululemon pants while not working out has got some serious style problems.

I think Under Armour and Nike in particular, as well as Adidas, Puma, Kappa and Reebok do a pretty good job for men without breaking the bank for essentially a stretchy cotton t-shirt.
I think those companies make fine clothing for women too and really don't feel the need to spend at least twice as much on lulu stuff. I mean really. Even the name is silly. But then, I've heard nothing but great things about their comfort. Is it worth it? I think I'm comfy enough in my nike capris and Flames t-shirt.

Lordy, I hate people who work out in designer clothes. Well, hate is a strong word, but hearing how people need brands like Underarmour, Adidas, Nike etc... in order to get a decent workout is just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

You're there to sweat. Anything that keeps your cool and comfortable is fine. I think I have Champion shorts that cost be $25 at Sportchek and an 3 old T-shirts from the Calgary Reggae Festival. If anyone sees a guy working out in a fluorescent green t-shirt at the Shawnessy Y. That's me.

You definitely don't NEED it... but sometimes designer clothes fit better and breathe better. I don't pay more than $30 for my shorts typically either... unless I'm wearing a soccer jersey, my shirts are no more than $40. Some people do go nuts though.

Hah... I work out there too. Don't think I've noticed anyone in a blinding fluorescent t-shirt though.

Well I'm there normally between 6:30 and 8:00 most weekday mornings. Haha, actually the retina damaging quality of the shirt is a point of pride for me. My girlfriend won't work out near me when I'm wearing it.

PS She sports the Lululemon deal and while I'm normally not one for emoticons...

Ahh... I tend to go 7-9pm, so that would explain that. Yeah, all women who don't have a gut should wear it. I know I bought my girlfriend some for working out and I sure don't regret it.

I picked up one of those under armour shirts (from eBay for $7 ) and they really are a lot more comfertable to work out in. After a trial with them, I picked up another 3 shirts for soccer, squash, dodgeball, wall climbing, etc. (again, all from eBay )

Track pants make me look like a balloon since I'm a skinny guy, and really isn't ideal to use. If those Lululemon pants were under $15, I'd pick up a pair.

the compression under armour t-shirts or the regular fit?

I find the compression ones make great undershirts for casual dress or sport, but not as great on their own.

Yeah, but clearly you're not going for the image, but more for the simple practicality of wearing a higher quality piece of clothing. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Underarmour and Lululemon aren't superior work-out clothing, but that they can't be much better by degree. Can a $10 t-shirt be 7X "worse" than a $70 lululemon fancy-pants shirt. Of course not. Obviously, alot of people are paying extra for the "look" which is so ridiculous. I can definitely see it for competitive sports, of which I play none.

But good work on the 7$.

And Thunderball, how can you stand going to the Y in the evening? I'm a moderately in shape guy who can kind of not look like a fool, but I feel so out of place with the evening roid-heads.

I'm not entirely sure. I just saw under armour, and got a M size.

I guess I have both? I have 4 of those shirts now. Some are looser, some are tighter. I have long sleeve (for outdoor soccer) and short sleeve (for indoor).

Well, I find there's only a small cadre of roid-heads, but I don't really care. I'm too busy watching the girls on the treadmills ... Though the overabundance of high school kids and middle aged soccer moms with issues is what bothers me more. If I was a morning person, I'd totally go then.

Honestly, I think I'm gonna try and find another gym... its actually quite pricey for the level of service and how packed it gets. If my girlfriend didn't work there and get a free pass for herself, I'd be gone yesterday.

Yeah, you'd know the compression, they're like a second skin. It almost feels like you're peeling off a layer of skin if you really workout in it and sweat a lot. For soccer I tend to wear jerseys (even for practice)... they're just the best for it. I find regular cotton shirts are brutal for indoor and outdoor when its above say, 23'C outside. I order my jerseys from the US, buy them at Winners or some other method to get the most bang for my buck. Used to buy them off ebay, but there's too many fakes now and the real ones are a lot more expensive than they used to be.

Kicks, Sportchek, Jersey City, etc. really screw you over... $100? yeah right. Maybe they just get royally screwed by their distributors, I dunno, but they should be closer to $60-65

I agree, but it's close to where I live. It's actually a great place in the morning. Totally dead. Then around 9:00 the soccer moms with no jobs start rolling in. Yikes...
I was asked by one to get off of a treadmill that I was on because I was signed into the wrong one. Never mind that there were a dozen others laying around empty.

Yep... soccer moms with issues... this one time, one got mad at my girlfriend cause she looked at her while I was telling her a joke and assumed we were laughing at her (WTF!?) so I had to ream this psycho out. Ironically, my girlfriend taught her son swimming lessons... go figure.

Its about 10-15 from where I live... Southland would probably be better, but there's no running track...

Defiantly, I never noticed how brutal cotton was (indoor sports, outdoor sports, even just being outside when its > 24 degrees out) until I tried on UA. Now, I only use UA for sports and wear it when its > 24 degrees out.

I usually wear the tighter (could be compression? I don't sweat that much) UA under my soccer jersey wearing my FC's soccer jersey feels like a garbage bag since I'm so skinny.

Yeah, that's what I do with my soccer jerseys, though mine usually fit about right... the joys of being almost precisely a Nike/Puma/Kappa Large. But I've been saddled with XLs before and it feels like that for sure.

The new NikeFit jerseys don't even need the UA underneath, they breathe really well.

Cotton really is the enemy when its hot.

Well I didn't think I'd learn anything from this thread, but now I might just have to get myself an UA shirt to wear playing baseball this summer. I hope it's not too manly...

Oh no... they have an excellent womens line, from sports bras to jerseys. Its overpriced too, but not like lululemon. Its okay for women's sportswear to modelled after mens (with specific anatomical differences under consideration), but its not okay for men's sportswear to be modelled after womens. Lycra is not a material for men.

I prefer fur and chainmail myself. As well as hair. Can't get much more manly than that.
