The NL Central sure ain't no Al east. I dislike JT as much as the next Jays fan, but look for his ERA to improve by at least .5, if not more. You heard it here first.

Rockies play in the West not Central. It may not have the Yanks and Sox, but it also doesn't have the Orioles and Rays.

the rockies use dry balls at coors, which is why the balls haven't been flying as far. Look for towers to be very effective there.

Well Coors field has a lot of outfield and Towers likes to surrender hits of all sorts. If he makes the team he'll still have an ERA North of 5. That NL West is a much improved Division too. Arizona and Los Angeles both have a lot of good young talented hitters.

The Humidor is suspect at the very best of times, the OF isn't a very mobile one and the dimensions at coors allow it to still be a very good hitter's park.
Anyways, according to BBref it was still ranked as a hitter's park (109) over 100 = hitters, under 100 = pitcher's park.
In the crazy years, it was up in the 120s-125s, just to give you an idea, but don't fool yourself, it is still a very favorable hitting environment.
This has disaster written all over it. Oh why couldn't you just sign with SD and prolong your career Josh?

Interesting - I really like Scott Rolen - always have - but how much does he have left in the tank? 'Course the same could be said for Glaus particularly with that dang foot problem of his.

Rolen > Glaus
Glaus is horribly over-rated. In his entire career he's only had an OPS of over .900 twice. Once in his last 7 seasons.
Rolen has struggled the past few years, but when he's healthy he's flat out a better hitter than Glaus. There's no way we'd get Rolen for Glaus if there wasn't problems in the Cardinal's clubhouse.
It's never a bad idea to get rid of a known roider anyways. Who knows how much of an affect they had on Glaus' stats.

Both had injury plagued seasons last year. It would be interesting to see Rolen and Eckstein patrolling the infield just like in St.Louis last year.

I know we had to get rid of Rolen with his relationship with La Russa but I was hoping we could get something better than a roided up shell of a player.
Rolen was still good defensively last year but injuries and a slow bat really hurt him at the plate. He always has swung at bad pitches but now does not have the ability to turn them into hits, or at times even reach them, like he used to. Part was due to his injury and part was due to him just not being the same hitter. With the surgery he should be better but will never return to the hitter he was in his prime.
Glaus of course will continue to deteriorate now that he can no longer juice up.
I don't like the fact that the Cards are giving up money considering one of the big factors was dumping Rolens big deal. I guess Glaus has one less year on his bad deal so maybe that allows the Cards more flexibility at that time.

Weird trade (if it happens) - seems pretty lateral. Similar salaries, age, hitting ability.
Wonder if prospects, cash or anything will be added to the deal.

OK to decent trade for Toronto I guess, would be good to unload Glaus, but Rolen has 1 more year on his 12M deal than Glaus does. I think it comes down to how many games Rolen will be healthy to figure out how well this trade would work for the jays.
However regardless, it would be nice to get a strongly rumored roids guy off the team.

Rolen is way superior defensively... Has 7 Gold Gloves..... If he can stay healthly this is a great move.

Stories are now reading like the deal is done subject to physicals ... which in this case I suppose is not a rubber stamp.
Glaus had to exercise his option yr as well in StL.

I'm really liking JPs lateral moves this winter. Although Ted doesn't seem keen on giving him more jack, he seems to have improved his team. Unfortunately the Jays didn't really improve upon their weakest department - starting pitching. However, I'm not gonna get on JP for this, as these days pitching seems to be at a premium in the MLs. Also, adding a gold glove to the infield can only serve to help the pitchers.
If the arms can stay healthy, the bats work like they did last year, and the bullpen continues to dominate, the Jays could make a run at that coveted WC. It all comes down to continuing to work hard through the last 60 games. I think if they repeat what they have done for the past 3 years (stay within stabbing distance and then completely fall of the map in august), Gibbys job is as good as gone.

Everyone needs pitching for the most part - but is the rotation really the Jays weakest department now. The rotation for the most part was solid last year. More depth would be nice - but overall I thought the Jays could come back with mostly the same arms and do alright.
The bats were awful last year.
