Hey Sylvanfan, you seem like a pretty good guy.
Every year I drive to the island for holidays and either stay in Blue River or Kamloops. Every year I tell my wife and kid that I am going to go golfing in Kamloops, and they can find something to do for 6 hours, and every year I never do. This year we're flying to Van because I got some cheap tickets, thanks to the heads up from someone here. Next year though, if you are living there, let's do a round a golf.
btw, I'm glad I'm not young and trying to get into the home ownership thing right now anywhere in Alberta, especially in Calgary. My younger brother moved from Japan 2 years ago with wife and 2 kids, thinking he'd buy a place for about 280. He didn't and they have been going up by the hour ever since, and he is basically outpriced at this point. I think he'll be moving to BC at some point soon.

But what are you suppose to do? not buy from them? i think every one of the builders has that clause in there. It all depends on luck from there. I personally like my condo with streetside. No problems whatsoever.

You're one of the lucky ones then, I've heard more horror stories about Streetside than any other multi-family builders in this town.

I don't think that's greedy or picky at all, it's just a decision you (and tons of others) have to make.

Oh yeah, you can find lots of people screaming that the bubble has burst and it can't go on.. but typically they don't have reasons beyond a graph that shows housing prices compared to 1920 and a bunch of examples about how hard it is for people.

Yeah, by no means am I trying to suggest people have to live in Calgary, or Alberta. People have to determine what they need and what they want and decide where they feel the best place is for them to make things happen. The common thing though is that everyone will have to make a choice and those choices are a lot tougher today than they were 4 years ago. Everyone is different and whats right for one poster isn't neccessarily right for someone else.
And Duffman, if you're coming through Kamloops next year and want to golf let me know I'll be able to make it happen. The nice thing about the Kamloops courses is that they're generally all well looked after, and are very playable for players of all abilities. If it's July and it's an afternoon tee time make sure you have a hat and lots of Duff! That 40 degree heat can get you if you're not prepared for it. I used to play in it all the time and thought nothing of it. After being away for 10 years I tried it a couple years ago and was struggling to finish up the last couple holes.

That's so true.. it's easy to think about moving somewhere else that's more affordable, it's harder to do when you have friends, family, roots, a good job, etc... It's unfair, but then life isn't fair. I feel very fortunate to be in the position that I'm in right now.

Cool, the courses there have always intrigued me quite a bit. It would be early, early one day.
When I went through there last year it was in the mid 30's, and a lady in a restaurant said it felt cool compared to the week before when it was in the mid 40's.
