For carb sensative people (like myself) its not optimal. JMO of course.

PWO....you need something like a 4:1 ratio...carbs/protein.
P90x even recommends it.
TSN even ran those stupid highlights promoting chocolate milk on their website this past year. I should remand getting paid, since it was MY idea first.

I'm looking at starting this program next week and am trying to figure out a diet that I can live with.
One other question... what happens at the end of the 90 days? Is there some sort of follow up maintenance plan? or is the thought that you do the 90 days, then repeat?
|
I buy powdered Nesquick, and mix it with 2% milk.
Or you can just buy the 2% chocolate milk.
You need something PWO. There are other alternatives of course, like Surge....but a lot of studies are showing that chocolate milk out preforms Surge in virtually every category.

Right on both counts.
If possible, don't eat carbs right before bed. I know your liver is burning glycogen(carbs) all night long, but at nowhere NEAR the pace it will if you're actually doing something like Bergy said.
Try to get protein right before bed....so your body can break it down and repair muscle tissue even better while you sleep.

This is what I recommend as well.
A full meal right before bed is too much, but a snack is alright.
Still, it is debatable....so its basically all about what is best for you.

I love fish.
Good source of Omega 3s too.
If you have chocolate milk, pork, fish, eggs and beef....what more do you need in life?

Hmm, speaking from just personal experiance, there is now way chocolate milk would work for me (well not as well as other things). IE, I can't eat a ton of carbs without gaining a lot of fat. That is a huge influx of carbs.
HOWEVER, I agree that choco milk would be a good idea for the "hard gainers" or people who can't put on weight to save their lives.
I like having about 40g protein Post workout, and 20grams (max) carbs. My strength is still going up, and i'm not putting on any fat, which is good for me (as it tends to pile on quickly)!
But like all things, you have to try and find what works for you, cause everyone has a different body type.

There is such a thing as being extremely carb sensitive....so I can understand why chocolate milk wouldn't work for you.
But, after you workout....your body has just burned a bunch of glycogen as its main form of energy, and you need to replenish.
Chocolate milk does that for you.

Can anyone recommend a protein bar? My wife bought this one from Superstore called Bio Protein and it is the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life.

I would recommend not eating a protein bar.
Unless you can find one that isn't loaded with sugar, sodium and carbs.

Did it look like this?
Because that's the brand I get from Costco, although they have 23 grams of protein unlike these ones, and I think they taste pretty good. Like a chocolate bar with a dry filling.

I reccomend Bananas after your workout, and only after your work out. I drink choc milk but not religiously like some.
