I seriously don't think any other guitartist's name posted in this thread could hold a candle to that kid. Of course, he could be in his 30s or something. Plus his name is Fernando Miyata! Brazillian guy with a Japanese last name. Mysterious...like his amazing powers.

Haven't read the thread.
For me this topic starts and ends with one name...
David Gilmour
That is all.

Seriously guys, just goto page 5 and see the Brazillian guy! Easily puts Vai to shame at the least.

That fat Brazillian guy is pretty good. I find, though, that distortion often hides imperfections. He seemed pretty damn good though, but I wouldn't say better than most.
My favorite guitarists are John Lee Hooker and Mark Knopfler.
However, one of my favorite guitar songs is Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. Shoot, the vid I wanted to link from youtube was taken down due to copy right. Oh well, this is a more drawn out version of it.

But he's mostly playing clean, he's just playing so fast it sound like distortion. He does have a phaser in there. Few in the world can play clean like Eric Johnson, that's a whole different game. I can play the first bar of Cliffs of Dover only (the screaming guitar intro of the normal short version that's at like 3:37 in that version). And very badly if I might say so myself. Rumors was EJ was discovered by Prince of all people. It's too bad EJ only comes out with a big album once a decade or less. Still Manhatten and Cliffs of Dover are timeless. I used to have a bootleg recording of him playing on Austin City Limits on PBS from 1983. I wish I could find it.

Cool thread ... good to see so many dynamite blues guitarists mentioned. It seems the electric guys have been covered very well, but the acoustic guys aren't getting their fair share of acclaim, so here's a few acoustic guys I think are very talented ... Norman Blake, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, Ry Cooder, Doc Watson, Leo Kotke, Don Ross, Jerry Douglas, David Bromberg and John Fahey.
One electric blues guy who I didn't see mentioned who's pretty hot is Ronnie Earl.

Hedges is very good alright. He has a song on Beyond Boundaries titled Bensusan, which I believe is a tribute to another great guitarist ... Pierre Bensusan. If you haven't already heard him, he's somebody you might enjoy. Adrian Legg is another good guitarist in this vein. Legg is a bit more like Leo Kotke though.

Nope, you are not the only one. Absolutely no soul or feeling to it, all the same. Yes, fast, lots of fingering, but fast does not equate to more talent.
Steve Vai on the other hand makes the guitar sing. There is a difference between playing an instrument and making that instrument sing.

IMO Clapton is passing the torch as best guitar player over to John Mayer right now. Kid is unreal. He is going to be the guitarist for the new generation.
