I think the way it works is that it should have been called a homerun, not a double, so the Americans got another freebie from that hopeless ump

Jeffrey Maier. 1995 ALCS. Baltimore at New York. I forget which game it was. Tony Tarasco in right field. I remember it vividly.

That is not even close to as bad of a call. That was a bad call, but it was a tough one. When you're a couple hundred feet away from a play it is very difficult to see exactly what is going on right at the top of the fence. I can understand the umpire's error in that case.

In the game yesterday, the ball goes clang off the foul pole about 15-20 feet up and bounces back in play. It's black and white. Home run. It's mind boggling how that call was screwed up.

hands up, who picked a Cuba/Japan final? Gotta love it, only 2 major league players on the last two teams standing. No wonder the govt wanted to ban the Cubans. LOL!

And Japan pulls it out 10-6. Some reasonably large celebrations here, as this makes up for an Olympics where Japan only picked up a single medal. Plus they're going to more than likely get creamed in the World Cup as they're in tough so something to celebrate for everyone here.

Good thing the Japanese ultimately decided they did want to participate. Pretty damn good tournament all around. Certantly more interesting than a pile of meaningless exhibition games. Looking forward to the next one in 2009.
