Road stuff;
Why do people insist on getting over to the left lane as quickly as they can, only to drive at exactly the posted speed limit? The left lane is for passing, not the right. And I don't care if you're making a left turn 17 blocks ahead, the dozen or so cars lined up behind you wish you would get the bleep out of the way until you get closer to your turnoff.
Why do people create rolling road blocks by driving side by side down Deerfoot or Crowchild at the same speed, usually at exactly the posted speed limit? If the guy next to you is going the same speed as you and there's a lineup behind you in the left lane, either get in front of the other guy or get behind. You're probably in his blind spot anyway, so move.
Why can't people merge properly? It's called merging for a reason. There's a difference between merging and yielding. Look up the words and you might figure it out. So if you're in a merge lane, speed up so you're going about the same speed as the lane you're merging into. Makes it much easier than trying to move your 20kph butt into traffic moving 80. And if someone is trying to merge into your lane and you have nobody around you, move over for crying out loud! Give them the lane. Don't speed up to block them. Move over or adjust your position so everybody can keep moving.
Why is it that when you put your turn signal on to indicate a lane change, people close the gap? I've gotten to the point where I don't use the signal anymore because whenever I do, some a-hole speeds up to block me from moving over. So now I signal just after I start the lane change.
Why do pedestrians feel that since they're in a crosswalk, they don't need to walk any quicker than my 90 year old Grandmother? If there are a bunch of cars waiting for you to clear the intersection, pick up the pace a bit!
Why do pedestrians feel they don't need to check for oncoming traffic before stepping out into a crosswalk? What's with the abrupt 90 degree turn with no warning that you're about to step into traffic? Yeah, it's a crosswalk. But if I don't know you're about to use it, how the heck am I supposed to stop in time? Take a second to make sure the guy driving along sees you before stepping in front of him. Make eye contact if you can. And don't keep going across several lanes without looking for cars both ways. Don't assume that because you're in a crosswalk you're invincible. Sometimes the driver just doesn't realize that the crosswalk is being used until it's too late. I can guarantee you that although it's the drivers "fault" for hitting you, it won't make you any less dead. So take a look.
