I definitely really like the social, music and sports scenes in St. Louis. I'm presuming Buffalo doesn't have those. I'll probably never visit Buffalo to be fair.

If you are really anti-Buffalo, the arena is like a 5 minute drive from the Canada border. Could live in Niagara Falls or St.Catherines

Whitecloud (29) $2.75M for one more year. Probably costs 1 premium asset (late 1st)
Easiest decision ever.

Love Whitecloud so far, but he's not the same level of asset as Parayko (at least not the same perceived level). Parayko is perceived a premier shut down guy and a genuine upgrade within every team's top 4. Meanwhile, Whitecloud is solid, but most competitors will already have several, if not an entire top 4, that is better than him. Whitecloud is more of a depth guy in the case of injury. Parayko is a legit upgrade.
This is, at least, how Parayko is perceived. I think he's looked pretty crappy this year, overall, and looked not so great in the Olympics too. But I guess he's also turned up his play in various playoff series already. Maybe he's better in a more physical atmosphere (like the playoffs) and not so hot in a wide open skill based atmosphere (like the Olympics).

If he likes the vibes in St. Louis, I doubt Niagara Falls or St. Catherines is going to do it for him.

Actually a nice mansion in Niagara-on-the-Lake, surrounded by vineyards, and commuting to Buffalo sounds idyllic to me, but I'm not sure if any Sabres have ever commuted from Canada in the past. Would be interesting to know.

I guess it takes more than half a good season to rehab a teams image after being dreadful for 10 or more seasons in a row.

All quite true. But the renaissance came at the expense of completely abandoning a number of neighbourhoods, razing the houses to the ground, and letting the native vegetation reclaim the area. Those parts of town, I believe, have not been rebuilt and literally are waste land now. That's really what I was thinking of.

I’ve spent a decent amount of time in Detroit and I feel it gets way too much hate. The area where LCA, Comerica and Ford Field are, is actually really nice. Nice pubs and restaurants. There are areas you want to avoid (like any major US city), but downtown Detroit is awesome

I think this all the time. Even upstate new york though. You could have an A+ acerage with lake front on one of the finger lakes and commute in. Or on Lake Ontario.
Yeah it snows, but no more than Toronto.

Also, Detroit has weird concentric circles of ####/ absolute beauty around it.

They did a full revitalization around the arenas - that’s why it’s nice down there

New Orleans is the nicest part of Louisiana. Baton Rouge was like a third world country.
Detroit >>>>>
I contest your chicago mention though, as Chicago =/ Gary Indiana. But If you meant Gary, then yes absolutely.

I’ve never been to Gary, but I’ve heard stories. East St. Louis is probably the worst I’ve seen.
I loved Chicago. But there are some real rough areas on the south side

Used to live there.
Many hockey players generally live around Troy/Rochester hills area. Gross pointe is a different crowd (of course, this is a stereotype and not completely true).
