Nope. That is the reasonable interpretation, but it's not expressly forbidden:

Quote:
(d) The curling stone must be delivered using the handle of the stone.

(e) A stone must be clearly released from the hand before it reaches the
hog line at the delivery end. If the player fails to do so, the stone is
immediately removed from play by the delivering team.
The word 'granite' appears once in the whole rulebook, in the glossary explaining what a stone is.

There's nothing in the rulebook that says a dog can't do curling. The rulebook doesn't actually forbid a dog or human from putting the handle in their mouth and propelling it the full length of the sheet - just gotta make sure you don't touch it with your hand past the hog line.

So expect to see me and my dog in mixed doubles in 2030. The key is that my dog will have to be female as the rule says:

Quote:
A team is composed of two players, one male and one female.
Alternate players are not allowed. A team must forfeit any game(s) in
which it fails to have both players playing for the entire game. One
coach and one other team official will be allowed for each team

You know it's quite the controversy when Fox News wades in, but I expect this quote is good:
Quote:
The sports governing body also addressed two rule concerns including "double-touching" and touching the granite. According to the rules, players can retouch the handle multiple times, but "touching the handle after the hog line is not allowed and will result in the stone being removed from play." Additionally, the stone will be removed from play if the granite of the stone is touched at all during "forward motion."
No touchy the granite!

The best expression in curling will always be "that was a well orchestrated deuce"

It doesn't matter how you and your dog want to interpret the rules but World Curling has said it is a rule violation:

Quote:
When delivering a stone, before the hog line players can retouch the handle as many times as they wish. However, touching the handle after the hog line is not allowed and will result in the stone being removed from play as per Rule R.5 (e) that states: “A stone must be clearly released from the hand before it reaches the hog line at the delivery end. If the player fails to do so, the stone is immediately removed from play by the delivering team.”

During forward motion, touching the granite of the stone is not allowed. This will result in the stone being removed from play.

As per rule R.5 (d) “The curling stone must be delivered using the handle of the stone.” Violation of this rule, will result in the stone being removed from play.

Yes the governing body has had to come out and clarify it, because like I originally said: the rules don't explicitly forbid touching the granite.

The rules do explicitly forbid touching the granite.

Quote:
R9. TOUCHED MOVING STONES
(a) Between the tee line at the delivery end and the hog line at the playing end:
I. If a moving stone is touched, or is caused to be touched, by the team to which it belongs, or by their equipment, the touched stone is removed from play immediately by that team. A double touch by the person delivering the stone, prior to the hog line at the delivering end, is not considered a violation.
Stones have to be delivered by the handle so as indicated if the handle is touched multiple times before the hog line it is not an issue but if it is touched anywhere but the handle after the tee line it is against the rules.

You're having to make a bunch of inferences by connecting the dots from multiple different rules. That's not explicit.

Double touch is not defined. It wouldn't be unreasonable to interpret that you can use both hands during delivery, as long as the final motion comes from the handle (like how you use both hands to shoot a basketball)
