Unless they go on a 6-8 game heater immediately after the Olympic break I would say their chances are pretty bleak as they have to leapfrog a lot of teams, and some of them will likely go on winning streaks of their own.

Yikes. I may have gone a little off the deep end lol.

I'm not on here often lately, and I was catching up on this thread, and was like... "wtf is with this 'Tkachuk isn't a team player' garbage? Doesn't anyone remember him going after Kucherov for injuring Barkov in like Chucky's third game in Florida?"

So then I went looking for the clip, which turned into... "man, Barky is so friggin good. Guys, check this out. And this. Oh and this too..."

Which then became, "Wait. What was I doing? Oh yeah, Kucherov's a piece of garbage that everyone overlooks cause he puts up points. Remember that time he..."

Which ended in "no wonder Tkachuck ran into him in open ice last week, which started that brawl... I mean, how does no one remember all the garbage this guy pulls... Like, look at this, and this..."

Which, of course culminated in reading all the comments on the final youtibe clip I posted... which got me pumped for a possible (hopeful?) BoF in the playoffs this year (the 'pearl-clutching etc' was directed at them, not you guys - but of course there was no way you'd know that lol).

Annnnnyway. Essentially, I went down a hole of watching funny cat videos and sent them all to you guys as if you were all there watching them with me.

I, for one, always appreciate an unhinged multi-post spree. Even more so when it involves the Panthers.

How are you feeling about the Panthers since the Whitehouse visit? You may have posted about it already but I don't remember reading it.

I'd rather not talk about it. I have conflicted feelings about it.

Much in the same way I treat artists, I treat athletes: I don't want to know about their personal lives. I'm frequently disappointed. I try to separate the art/achievements from the person, but it's getting harder and harder to do that these days.

Never meet your heroes, I always say.

I wouldn't have cared if it was just a White House attendance - you are invited as champs, you go as a team to be honoured by the White House. Though I understand when teams these days don't go. And unsurprisingly the present occupant is kind of petty as far as who he invites anyway.

It was the tongue bath to Trump by Chucky that was off putting.

Have you met any of the Florida Panthers?

Not really sure why it's relevant...

On the current team? No.

However, I did meet Ed Jovanovski once at a charity event. He wasn't a bad guy or anything, but wasn't overly friendly, and seemed a bit on the dull/dumb side of things.

I've only met a few hockey players in my life and they all are pleasant but slightly simple people.

So you 'always say' to never meet your heroes, yet you've never actually met your heroes. Then you're painting with a broad stroke for no reason other than to demean hockey players.

It's a general axiom. I didn't make it up, but it typically holds true. Please stop with the "gotcha" type interactions.

And, I don't need to demean athletes, they tend to do it all by themselves.

I try to separate the people from the sport, because generally there's a lot of ####ty pro athletes. There are great ones too.
But the white house stuff is tougher to look past.

You do you, but it's awfully pompous to derive enjoyment from these people's skills while simultaneously looking down upon them.

All academics are self-important dicks who think they are better than everyone else in society. It's probably not as enjoyable when someone paints with such a broad stroke about your own profession.

That's not really what "never meet your heroes" means. It has to do with disappointment about people you looked up to based on their skills.

Can I not have enjoyed Theo Fleury's skills when he played without also getting to comment on his present actions without being accused of being "pompous"?

I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I'll be fine.

I'd be more concerned about defending actions that will appear indefensible in due time.

If you're talking about Tkachuk, you still cheer for his team. He won two cups for you. So you are implicitly defending him.

Oh...got it. You're an anti-intellectual. You and your kind are having a moment these days. Enjoy it while you can.

That's the "pompous" part. Imagine saying that to Iginla at a nice dinner party.

No, he's really not. This is really a superficial argument.

I try to ignore it. Every major championship team gets invited to the White House. I think we all remember the ridicule and ostracization of a certain Bruins goalie that boycotted their trip during the Bush administration.

Do I like how happy Tkachuk was about meeting Trump? No, not even in the slightest bit. I've chosen to tell myself it's just a 27 year old kid who's an extremely proud American being excited to meet the US President.

Even Barky seemed pretty excited to be there, and I challenge anyone to find one person who has said anything bad about the kind of person Sasha Barkov is.

At any rate, I love the way the Panthers play (when they have their full lineup dressed, and even how they play when they don't). There isn't a player on that roster I wouldn't want playing for the Flames in a heartbeat. I wish to god the Flames had even an ounce of the character the Panthers have when they're on the ice.

Trump is a piece of that needs to be dragged out in the middle of the street and have the living smacked out of him.

Go Panthers!
