It's not an assumption based on nothing. Kadri has been vocal about Trump and he's also had racist threats in some places in the US.
But "where hockey matters" - the Canes are very well attended, just like TB and Fla right now. Dunno about the non-attending population of course.

Maybe, but he reportedly didn't have Montreal or Toronto on his list, and they were both teams that had interest.
But I also don't get what you think he would do with such leverage - he's not in contract negotiations or anything. So, he says "they're on my list but I have the power to waive" what does that get him?

Also of note Dailyfaceoff's Anthony DiMarco reported the Wild are on Kadri's no trade list.

Then that sounds more like exerting control versus political stuff. With a dash of "sure I'll move there" by leaving Montreal and Toronto off.
I still wonder about Ottawa.

Ottawa is a tire fire right now. Doubt he would want to go there.

Ottawa would probably be more interested in Cooley than in Kadri.

Why would they drop Nelson down. He does everything Kadri does, is big and plays some defence.

Kadri is on a value contract. At his age he would get a lot more than 7 million if he was a UFA this offseason. Teams should pay the Flames for getting a value contract.

Trade all our assets away. Time to rebuild the team to a Stanley Cup Contender.

The cap is going up over eight million next season, that more than covers Kadri's entire cap hit, and he still and incredibly effective player.

Their AHL team just signed James Reimer to a PTO

That only follows if you think North Carolina is a red state. It isn’t. It’s a well-known swing state. A lot of transplanted Yankees in the Research Triangle.

They’ve voted for the Democrat only once since 1968. That was the Obama landslide. They’ve had two Republicans senators for over 10 years and 10/14 congressional districts are red (and it’s been like that since 1994).

They've also elected Democrat governors and state houses during that time – the current governor is a Democrat – and the popular vote percentage never strays very far from 50-50. It's classified as a swing state by every American political analyst I know of.

Minnesota and Carolina are both teams in win now mode with weak C depth. Seems likely to me that Kadri and his agent selected them to give himself more control by removing two likely trade destinations.

Well it sure doesn’t swing in federal elections. I know people who go to school there (Wake Forest) and they say it’s RW as hell.

Goes both ways. In the same podcast that Lebrun says the Flames are in danger of being stuck in the middle and need to listen to offers, they also talk about how you can’t just burn it down, how having the right veterans is important to keep around young guys like Parekh, and how Canadian teams more than any other need to stay competitive and take more of a “hybrid rebuild”/retool approach due to market pressures. Citing Washington as an example of a team that was able to reload and become competitive again.
Do we agree with all of that? Not sure.

... as is his right.
Would be funny if BUF was not on the list and he ended up there though, wouldn't it?
Not so smart now!
