Also- if the US refused our oil, we’d be ####ed. Like, super ####ed. Have a gander at how much we export to them and then how much export capacity we have elsewhere. New pipeline or not. Coles notes/ the new pipes needed to protect Canada on that export supply need to be gigantic.

Trump isn't even trying to lie, he's being totally straight up in this presser that this is all about the oil.

It would be tricky for the us to up and reject our oil, padd 2 would starve, they could fix that but it would take years and years.

Look I’m supportive of exports and diversification but under no illusions it’s an economic venture at this point.

Watching this press conference is highly concerning because, while we all know it's about oil and resources, we're an extremely resource-rich country right beside them. When he mentioned the Monroe Doctrine, it should raise some alarms here and in Greenland. Not because they're going to roll in the tanks, but because the agenda there isn't hidden and there are pretty clear motives.

Yeah forget pipelines, doesn't matter when you don't have a country. Nuke/WMD development needs to be priority #1 for us.

The press conference is insane

Q: China, Russia, and Iran have interests in Venezuela. How does this operation affect your relationships with them?
TRUMP: In terms of other countries that want oil, we're in the oil business. We're gonna sell it to them. We'll be selling oil.
Q: Who will run Venezuela?
TRUMP: Well it's largely going to be for a period of time the people standing right behind me. We're gonna be running it.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

Honestly Ive started to fantasize that if / when the right people get power back they go after the collaborators and make them pay for ill gotten gains. I'm not really sure it matters going after the mega goons or trump, you'll just get the J6 sympathies and a pardon the next time power changes, but the management of apple, abc, the oil companies, us steel and nucor... especially the judges, Should be punished for this, so that when the next guy tries this the support structures are more reluctant. And I think we all know there is no trumpy figure coming to save those guys from their own consequences.

How did the world order disintegrate so quickly? The US system was supposed to be built to prevent exactly these kinds of unilateral decisions. One clown comes in and knocks everything over like bowling pins.

I don’t think you can overstate the risk to Canada right now. Trump does what he says he’s going to do and he’s got eyes on the resources of this country.

And all that posting about Greenland looks a lot more serious now than it did a week or two ago.

Finally, I don’t think I would be planning any trips to Taiwan soon. This represents a big window of opportunity for China to get involved in all this territory taking.

Well the alternative was watching that country fall more to the influence of China. This sends message to the regime to fall in line in the hemisphere.

Its about blocking as much as capturing resources.

Again not saying it was right, but that country was run hard into the ground for decades. If you look at Panama, a decent maybe good outcome is possible. Status quo was going to see more suffering, and frankly the people are not Islamic, so there is a better chance than usual this could work.

If anyone is concerned its Cuba. Yet not sure US cares enough.

As someone who is a big fan of Cuba and it's people, this is concerning. But Cuba doesnt really have anything the US wants other than control over their sphere of influence.

So what I'm getting from all this chatter :

Is that the threat to the natural resource revenue that Canada sells to the Americans is real, and is a national security issue? So the logical action is for Canada to support our American allies, and go down and firebomb every single Venezuelan oil field, and mode of production. Burn it all to the ground in the name of Canada's friendship with the USA.

Dude, with all due respect, I think the resource angle is just a smoke screen for two bigger things;

First, a territory grab, which is something that he has spoken openly about wanting to do for a long time. To cement his legacy as a great president. At a minimum he wants to be surrounded by vessel states, and if he can, he would like to incorporate those territories into the United States.

Second, he’s proving that the United States can be run like a monarchy at the end of the day the main power that a government has over its people is the legitimate use of violence of force. It all boils down to that at its root. And he controls the most powerful military in the world. And he doesn’t need Congress to support any of the actions he wants to take. He just proved that.

Many smart people have said this over the years, but if you listen carefully to what authoritarians say out loud it mirrors their actions later on. There should be no surprise here.

Mexico can defend itself. Everyone in the world knows that Canada can’t. The next three years are gonna be pretty challenging. Trump can press the regime change button anytime he wants.

Pierre is already sucking up. He’d love to be the Canadian Lukashenko.

Pretty ####ed up what is going on now, but not surprising given the recent buildup. Maduro had to go. It was definitely a stolen election and literally no one else is more hated in all of Latin America then him. I suspect deep down quite a few people there are happy with this. The hard part is what comes after and that's where it's going to get all screwy. Make no mistake, impossible there aren't Americans going to be sent home in body bags.

A huge wake up call to anyone thinking that regions like Greenland and Canada should assume there are a bunch of "good guys" in the US army who will ignore orders. A wake up call that his speaking about the 51st state is a troll joke job. A wake up call to those that think that we shouldn't nuke the F up as quickly as possible.

In a vacuum though, pretty wild to grab a sitting president in his sleep and whisk him away. I can only dream of this happening to Putin.

I saw a really good idea on a Canadian Armed Forces focussed YouTube channel last week whereby the host called for Carney to reverse the rifle ban/laws, and instead offer those law aboding gun owners the opportunity to become part of a standing militia to defend Canada in time of crisis.

That seems like a good idea right now. I don’t know how quickly you could do that legalize their guns get them to swear an oath of allegiance, some basic training, and make them a standing militia. This is something Canada should’ve had this whole time.

The government says it wants a 300,000 person standing militia anyways. This would jumpstart that by quite a bit.

We know who these people are because they bought their guns legally, went through all the processes to obtain them. So it should be pretty easy to contact them too.
