I really hope Parekh dominates the WJ and comes back for a strong end of the season

There’s a reason he fell to our pick - there were questions about how his game translates at the NHL level defensively

Having him look like the anchor of our D for the next decade solves a lot of problems

Flames drafting Keaton Verhoeff and having him with Parkeh is my dream right now.

They're both righties though. Mind you, I've been wanting to see Parekh get some extended time on the left side to better utilize his stick for offence, so maybe that becomes a thing?

I still firmly believe that landing a top-three pick only to walk away without any help up front would be a massive mistake, though.

I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but at the same time lets not pretend that scoring 107 points on a team with a +50 goal differential isn't going to get you a few cookies in the +/- column.

One year after being dealt the biggest setback of his young career, Zayne Parekh opened camp Friday with the Canadian junior team that cut him last season.

It was a blow likely to motivate and infuriate the Calgary Flames prospect for years.

So when the Flames hired Brent Seabrook, one of the men on Team Canada’s selection committee, to oversee the development of the Calgary’s top young blue liners, the first meeting between the two seemed destined to be uncomfortable.

Even Flames GM Craig Conroy admitted he was nervous about the opening exchange between three-time Stanley Cup winner and young Parekh.

However, before training camp opened in Calgary, Parekh demonstrated a class and maturity beyond his years by reaching out to Seabrook with words that comforted everyone involved.

“I sent him a text,” revealed the 19-year-old defenceman in a summertime chat.

“I'm like, ‘Hey, about what happened…, I'm not going to hold grudges. It's over with.’”

Phew.

“It was a little awkward at the start, but we sat down for dinner when I first got here,” added Parekh.

“Since then, it has been great working with him, because he's so knowledgeable.”

Not a ringing enforcement of Seabrook's evaluation abilities

Well, it's not like the Flames hired him as a scout.

He will play in all situations for team Canada

It's a good thing Canada is very deep at center, however, if Misa is not there, it is harder to see who is the clear-cut #1 center among the invitees.

He is honestly the best option at center for McKenna if Misa is not there. They did well together on a line at the Hlinka tournament.

Even if Misa is there, he could be a great option. Make 2 lines with pure offensive guys

I'm hoping Parekh finds his swagger again and gets his game back to where it was from back in the O. I haven't read the entire thread, but hopefully there aren't too many predictions of him being a point leading, big minutes defenseman in the tournament since personally I don't think that's likely.

He's had a pretty bad start to his NHL career and then he got injured and only recently got back on the ice. There's the physical part of this, but also the mental part of this for a young player with all that hope, hype and expectations. It'll likely take time and having him in the tournament is perfect for him to find his legs and confidence again.

Really, really bad luck and unfortunate for his development that the stupid AHL rule exists. We see how much it benefitted Kuznetsov and though its just 1 game, even Brz. With Parekh's pedigree and high talent, I'm certain if he had a year in the A, his first in the NHL would've been a thing for the Flames record books. Do we know if he'll be able to play in the A next season at all? I'd strongly, strongly prefer he transitions to the NHL with a year with the Wranglers next year over learning the game again in the NHL.

He can play in the AHL next year, I doubt he does

I think his struggles this year in the NHL are overblown...the entire D looked terrible at the time. In 12 NHL games he is a +3, people talk like he was on the ice for 100 goals against. Zayne will play big minutes at the WJC....I mean its a great team so they will be spread out but he will play a lot including #1 PP QB

The entire team was godawful the first 20 games of the season before Parekh got injured, so it was going to be nearly impossible for him to shine with the entire team playing as bad as it was, so I agree with Dino that Parekh's struggles to start the year vastly overblown.

It will be interesting to see how he does after the WJC, because if the team is still playing significantly better than they were at the start of the year, I think we see a lot more out of Zayne on his return.

He still might go back to junior after this tournament IMO.

Can't see it, unless he is REALLY struggling. If they send him down, they lose control, plus, Saginaw sucks so he could get flipped anywhere. They would be sending him down blind.
