It’d be neat to understand the strategy behind saying no you can’t have Conroy, you get Maloney.

The Flames have Conroy - great communicator (maybe an over-sharer, but he is good in interviews). They also have Peter Hanlon - I am sure he would have worded his answers ambiguously enough to at most ruffle a few impatient feathers, but definitely not poor any gasoline on this fire.
Just stay quiet until you are finished concluding whatever business you have to conclude this season. That's a much better approach than the interview with Francis.

Actually we are hearing from him tomorrow again. Part 2 of the interview lmao I'm not even kidding.

No, they promoted the best PR man in the game to AGM.

I was wondering if they would miss Pete Hanlon running Communications. I think they do now...

I have no faith in Maloney led organization - and I think he’s earned that lack of faith throughout his career.
It feels like this organization is bafflingly unaware of its own failures, and stunning lack of success.
He talks about years and years, so he’s opening the door for “years and years” of review, and when you look at “years and years” the Flames have been pretty much the least successful organization in the league dating back “years and years”.
This organization, from their own words, just seems completely clueless.

The determination to mediocrity is baffling. They use the few good teams the Flames have had as an example to justify everything. It has to come from the owner, doesn't make sense otherwise.

They promoted Peter Hanlon to AGM after many years as the VP of Comms, and promoted Sean Kelso to replace him.
Was Kelso the one who threw a hissy fit on Twitter after Nenshi beat Smith in 2017?
...
Yes. Yes he was: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...weet-1.4358870
Maybe PR isn't his strong suit.

If you've managed to piss off even the most level headed flames media folk like Haynes, you're doing your job wrong.

I don't think the fans who have reacted negatively to Maloney's comments have over reacted, I think the few here calling reactions and over reaction are the ones off the mark today.
I mean at the end of the day it's just a sports team. They're going to run it how they see fit.
If you want to affect their decisions, hit their wallet. Drive up the season ticket cancellations, stop buying single game tickets or multi game packages, stop buying Fantastic swag of your team.
They'll either get the message or move.

Someone return Maloney to his retirement home / the cretaceous period.
Has the aura of a reanimated corpse, and what's worse, no honest awareness of the team's current predicament nor track record over the last 20 years.
They don't have a Gaudreau or Tkachuk to make them a playoff contender. Like, hello. They literally do not have the horses (not literal horses) to be what management hopes they can be.
They're playing hard most nights too. It's not an effort issue, it's a talent issue.
You need your next Gaudreau/Tkachuk to begin to even make strides in that direction in a way that can be sustained. How do you do that? Let them be bad. It's the shortest path to it.
You've already been a non-playoff team for 3 years. It's not something to try to prevent-it's already happened.
Time to come to grips with the reality of the current situation.

What was the point/driver for giving this interview? Public communication is always planned:
-people close to Conroy escalate the fact that he doesn't have an extension (i.e. misalignment or no long term commitment)
-Maloney speaks on subject matter that is clearly in the GMs role description
People can draw their own conclusion - but the manner in which the above two messages were publicly delivered suggests to me that there is truth to "misalignment and heated debates" between owner representatives and GM.
