In my opinion the Flames are doing exactly the same rebuild as the Canadians.
Same path of getting younger, moving out diminishing assets, retaining leadership, and acquiring more draft picks.
Difference will be how much deeper are they willing and able to cut out of the older players on the roster this year because of how the team is playing.
Pretty sure the management has a plan all mapped out for when they would like to move out which players, but does this plan become more aggressive and are those players more willing to accept moving on.

A long time ago lol...he hit his career high in goals a few months ago. You are always so over the top.

Except they have a head coach who embraces and actively develops their young talent.
Wrong thread I guess.

A difference maker who you 100% would not be able to sign to a 3 year $21M deal in July.

The Flames did already draft a finalist for that very same Calder trophy with a 7th round pick. Maybe their already on board with the strategy?

I think Andersson and Coleman value will be highest at trade deadline. But I think we may get 2nds or next year's 1st.
If there is demand for other players I would trade now. Their value will not change much.
Let's see what we are missing to build a very good team which can compete for the cup at least 4-8 years.
1. Top line Centre
2. 2 or more top 2 lines forwards with high skill
3. Good 3rd line shut down Center /I was hoping Honzek become this player/
4. Top LHD who play with Parekh
5. Two big mobile/ meaner D who is good at physical battles - I hope Kuznetsov become one of them.
So I think we need draft top 3 this season and top 5-10 next season and hope to find Top C and Top D. Others hopefully we can find form later drafts, our drafted prospects or from trades.

Yeah, this is gonna take a few years to sort out but that’s okay. The silver lining is we have I think the right management team to do it. The drafting I think has been really good and the trades not all that bad IMO.
Fans (but more importantly ownership………) are going to need to be patient.

I'm less sold that the value will be highest at the deadline - the new cap rules for playoffs make cap accrual and waiting for retention until the deadline less valueable.
I think the Flames could try to take advantage of a struggling team here.
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
LA
Dallas
Toronto
All teams that will want to make a splash to try to ensure they don't get too far behind the playoff race here, and I think you can sometimes play these teams and the teams holding those playoff spots against each other right now.

The point is the deadline is the last chance to put yourself over the top, its not only about cap

I wonder what you can get if you could convince Kadri to waive plus eat half his contract. He's 35, but a team who has a 3 year or so could use him at $3.5. Say, Winnipeg.

I think these rules will eventually lead to more deals before the Xmas break then we see most years. Normally even if the Flames continue to lose, odds are maybe 1 trade will be made before the new year. I think there could be options earlier.

I think the Flames Management should right off the season. Give their prospects and picks play-time and experience. Trade off aging assets. Go as low as we can in standings. And get as much decent combination numbers for the draft lottery. And hope to attain Top Draft Picks next season.

As others have said, Francis is a mouthpiece. It wouldn't surprise me if they have had some talks with vets and deals percolating, and this is just a way to prepare the average joe fan for what's about to come.

And it still makes me sad that the Flames didn't take Hutson who was the obvious BPA when they were picking in the second round.

The Flames have had extra firsts every year for 3 years now...they are already doing that. Also, it couldn't have been that obvious considering he was drafted at the end of round 2 after he was passed on 60 times!

Francis has said too many blatantly stupid things in his time to be a mouthpiece. My best guess is that this is him filling column inches with noise because he can't think of anything else to complain about.

He had the article ready to go but the Flames almost blew it for him

Francis is well known to repeat what management has told him. He's annoying but more often than not he's right as far as what management is doing.

Why do you always go on the assumption that they didn’t ask Kadr?

The stars are off to a slow start and have Lubushkin playing 14 mins a night making 3.25M and Faksa playing 12 mins a game and making $2M
Bischel is only playing 16 a night.
Ras 50% retained and Coleman 50% retained is around $5M
Faksa. Lyubushkin and Bichsel coming back adds them cap space. Adding Andersson gives them a top 4 that can play almost the entire game if need be in the playoffs.
Coleman would add to their depth.
Can we snag Bischel and a 1st or Hemming or Bertucci or some combination of these players.
Lyubushkin and Faksa do not have trade protection and would be ok players to add for a tank season.
