Flames dominated for much of the first 2 games. Faced a bad goalie and stole a win, faced a good goalie and get blown out.

I think it is going to be a long season for the playoff hopefuls but the rebuild crowd is going to get what they want.

I could be wrong but I have felt the Flames are heading for a down season here. On the flip side I can see the Canucks bouncing back but their forwards outside their top line are questionable.

It is game 2 .. breathe everyone. There is NO TEAM that is firing on all cylinders at game 2, so the hyperbolic over reactions are comical as always on here. For the better part of two games, Flames have looked good. There were a ton of bad bounces in tonight's game that happen over an 82 game schedule. There is no other team that had to open back to back on home openers with crazy travel, and add an afternoon game on game 3. That is some wicked scheduling and we all know it takes a couple of weeks of real games to get to where you are comfortable in saying the mistakes and habits are what need to be corrected.

If any of you think that Cooley would have been the savior in last nights game, I suggest you see a doctor. I can comfortably say it would likely have been an 8-1 score with him in there. There is a reason the coaches, management, and others made the decision to play Wolf on back to back, and likely three in a row come Saturday. A couple weeks of Proz in the AHL and I fully expect them to be reversed or management bringing in a capable backup goaltender.

Take a deep breath people. I was hoping for a 2-1 record through three games, and we are still on track for that and we are on the cusp of seeing Parekh start. No, he is not going to be the savior, but it is exciting to get him in the mix since Gridin has done great to start the season in his minutes. Both will have ups and downs, but it is exciting at the youth movement that is being infused. And, what a great two day stretch for Parekh to watch the games. He saw how the team made adjustments, battled hard and got the points needed against Edmonton. He saw the lucky bounces, the missed opportunities, and things we could do better in the game last night. Now he gets to go out and do it.

What is the point of a post like this?

Gonna be a long season not because of the team but because of garbage like this that doesn't actually generate actual hockey discussion.

My view is the team hasn't looked very good and they could end up having quite a poor season. But they own their own pick and need top line talent, so that's not a bad thing.

My mindset continues to be to cheer for the wins, but feel OK but the losses.

We are either watching the standings for the playoffs or Mckenna.

Either way I'll enjoy it.

The Canucks have a lot of questionable forwards, but if their stars play well and Demko stays healthy, they have elite players that are better than anyone we have other than Wolf.

It's early and we will see, but the PGT after the Oilers game had a few posters call out the posters who think this team could be bottom 5. From what I saw, the Oilers gave us that game. At time we played well, and we played well once we got the momentum, but it was not a good game for the Flames. Not sure how anyone after that game could be very confident in this group.

I thought it was generally an ok effort until the Bahl goal. People complaining about the flames getting lucky goals but a wild shot nowhere near the net hits our dman in the head and bounces perfectly onto a Vancouver stick.

After that it looked like the players themselves realized the tank is empty and it went downhill.

That’s where I am at. Wins are good and losses are fine. I still think they end up bottom ten at the end of the season. Too bad the centres seem so-so

Didn’t think that game was going to go very well due to the travel. They actually did better than I thought they would. They need to start finishing on chances though. They were in that game if they buried a few of their chance. Wolf can’t win them every game.

They could use Huberdeau/Pospisil/Parekh in the lineup to help generate offense. I would take Lomberg/Kirkland/Bean out

There worst part about this loss is that it fuelled up the overbearing people who were somehow still miserable after the Oilers win and already viewed that as somehow bad and undeserving. Takes a special type to hate on a win.

Outside of that ohhhhh well. They’ve lost one whole game, on the back half of a back to back no less while dealing with injuries, as a team that most people are predicting to lose 35-50 times this season. Not much to do about it and very little to read into about it.

Agreed but the team also still needs long-term top line wingers.
They have some candidates for that, including Coronato and Gridin but I see both more as 2nd liners more than likely, at least on a top notch team.

Goaltending is in good shape
D is in good shape long-term.

The forwards need work. If you get a top line winger this draft, that's an important box to check.

I thought the Flames struggled in both games, 1st game it looked like the Oilers obtained a lead, then sat back,

Second game, Flames offensive struggles were really obvious.

Hopefully Bahl is okay, very weird play with all the Flames looking like the stopped.

Exactly my feeling but I am not watching too much like I used to.

How is the D good shape long term? They have 2 sure dman in Weegar and Bahl. And one blue chip prospect.

Well Hunter B is certainly going to factor in as a TJ Brodie type #4. Guys like Mews, Jamieson and Morin are certainly good prospects that can compliment Bahl, Parekh and Weegar. If one of these 3 hits as well you've got yourself a defense core for the next 6-7 years.
