Doesn't always work that way. Some guys work on specific things while in the A. Other guys just fit one league better than another. I don't put much weight at all on how he played in the A, I am far more concerned/impressed with how he looked with NHLers. TO me, that is the indication of who he will be as a player.
Fair enough...I respect that position.

Not sure we share the same definition of "bust" if Honzek as a third rounder gets that label from you.
I mean, third liners are available on the waiver wires for free, or with minimal financial investment as a UFA.
You should not be using mid-first round picks to get third liners. If this is his ceiling, then I would consider it a bust as they didn't achieve their potential based on their draft position.
(for reference, I would also consider players like Jankowski, Colborne, Lazar, Puljujärvi, etc as busts despite the fact they carved out NHL careers.)

And that is also fair. But I don't think we should be limiting his ceiling to 3rd liner, he has the tools to be more than that.

With the exception of Colborne those guys aren't 3rd liners. They are 4th liners and fringe NHLers.
Good 3rd liners are not often available on the waiver wire. You can get some as UFAs, but they aren't cheap.
An effective 3rd liner at that spot in the draft isn't a bust. At that spot of the draft the ceiling for most players is 2nd liner, so if they settle into a solid 3rd liner you've done OK. Particularly if it's a centre. I would suggest a good 3rd line centre has the same value as a 2nd line winger.

I'll just use Jankowski as a well known local example- whether you want to call him a bust or not, that might depend on perspective but I think the idea is you want players like this to be your draft misses (as opposed to guys who don't play at all- E Poirier, Klimchuk, Nemisz etc) and not as your draft hits

Nah, just appears evident from all the other threads you guys are desperate for things to whine about.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
Here's how Hockey Prospecting views things from a strictly numbers basis:

interesting to be sure. don't mind any ways to look at the data, some of it seems a bit wild and random- like what data exits to give Leander a higher chance no matter how small than Stomgren of being a star- but that's just small numbers for you
I feel if I was to do that list I'd rank/sort based on an average of the 2 figures
I have a soft spot for Solovyov and I hope they give him some runway but his data seems out of keeping compare to Brz and Morin for sure
