Awful ownership.

The Oilers have always been the more popular team in Alberta but under Edwards ownership we are almost at the point where it's a 50/50 split in Calgary. Oilers flags like crazy in the city during the playoffs. Talk to any teacher and see how many Flames jerseys to Oilers jerseys on jersey days. It's pretty bad as more Oilers representation amongst the youth. The organization has lost a lot of fans provincially since he took over. Even if not by design Katz didn't get in the way of the tank jobs and the Oilers got their superstar players and while Edwards was fumbling with CalgaryNEXT, Katz got a shiny new arena built.

It's one of those things where you ask yourself. Are we just lucky we have a team and should be happy? Should we expect more than always being an also-ran? One of those organizations that never really accomplishes anything and nobody really cares about? I think the new arena will help for a bit but if the organization continues to be run the same way Edwards has always run it, I just don't see any light at the end of the tunnel.

Some folks probably remember the 80's where the Oilers were winning cups and the Flames had 1 finals trip in 86. The kids cheering for the Oilers outnumbered Flames fans like 5-1. Then in the 90's there was like one guy at UofC wearing a Flames hat over the course of 4 years. It was so rare I remember that.

Yes, we are lucky to have a team. Luckier to perhaps have revenue sharing that locks us in place.

But if you're looking for solace, it's that this team is run by Craig Conroy. There are new hands on the wheel, and if Iggy is actually part of the leadership group then hopefully Edwards is enough of a jock sniffer to listen.

Direct example:
Fernie has sold zero lots from their latest land release.

Revelstoke...Northland Properties (Dallas Stars owner) is doing far better with their development.
I was just referring to the customers we had ha ha.

Govts were the worst to deal with by a fair margin.

During COVID the Flames were one of the very first orgs in the NHL to layoff/terminate the dome staff. I recall many of the players donating money out of their own pockets to help. Crickets from ME.

Not disagreeing with your premise but you’re excluding, probably, the most important fact.

Well, part of it is that Edmontonians have always just had that one team to identify themselves with. They rely on it. Who wears a jersey to a mall in the middle of summer? Edmonton fans.

This is a real gear grinder for me. They wear jerseys at literally any time, for any reason. Jerseys of any sort are not appropriate general attire. You look like a dumb chode.

And apparently Roughrider fans. There's always an infestation of them at West Edmonton Mall.

Jersey is long enough to hide the sweatpant holes around the knees.

at least it's isolated to game days. I can't stand going to Costco in the middle of ####in August and seeing 5-6 people wearing a jersey... Like c'mon own some real clothes! It can't possibly be comfortable in the heat, even!

Or when they're at a Flames v anyone else game at the dome. Just sitting there in the Oilers jersey like a loser.

To be fair, we are talking about Edmontonians. It's probably the fanciest thing they have in their wardrobe.

Lol the Oilers didnt tank, they tried to compete but still sucked and won lotteries. Are you seriously giving Katz credit for winning McDavid with a 10% shot in a year they expected to compete for playoffs?

That year I remember a strong portion of the board thought we were going to be in the McDavid sweeps. Then we got to see Johnny play in the NHL.
