I bet he gets a righty centre out of left field when all the buzz is around Cozens.
It's awesome how he operates. No one had PHI and CGY on their trade bingo card, not even Philly Frank.

I'd just get Yanni Gourde.
Expiring UFA. Probably would not be too expensive. Fills a massive need on this team for the POs.
Lets go.

Good to go for POs and would be cheap as hell. Perfect!

Except for that whole he wants to be part of the solution here, the team loves him, and he has a NMC. I mean I guess if you can work out a three way trade and he has a chance to go back to TO it might work but not sure Tre wants to put that contract on his books. I know people like to muse about Colorado but from what I have heard he has zero interest in going back to Colorado or the US market.

Is Cozens an upgrade on Zary?

Kadri year 3 of 7. Zary RFA, Frost RFA, Backlund year 1 of 2. I don't see the fit.
If there is an opening on the depth chart it's for a bonafide star, if you could pick up a top 10-15 center in the league, someone who has a record of hitting PPG seasons, that would be interesting for sure.
But at his salary and having a large sample size of being a 0.5 PPG player, I don't really see how Cozens is still on Flames target board. I'm not a hater, He's a good player. But there is not a lot of room for another 2nd lineish kind of center.
Even if you firmly believe he's going to pop on another team, how would the Flames provide that opportunity. Backlund still plays 18 minutes a night, Kadri is still the best forward, Zary and Frost are entering their primes.

The Flames scouting department likely sees Cozens as the long-term #1 centre.

Really? His stats don't really support to that.

Depends if you see him as the 2022 player that needs a change of scenery or if you think he is what he is now

He must be using better doctors then the ones up north. Sports hernia up there takes 4 to 5 months.

If he was still scoring 70 points, he wouldn’t be available.
For the Flames to get a #1 centre via a trade, they’ll need to get one who is not currently playing like a #1 centre.
You’ll need to trust the scouting.

The problem is, when a player isn't playing like a #1 centre, it's usually because he isn't one.

I just don't see how this trade gets done unless the Flames decide to move some A assets.
That includes Honezek, 1RP etc.

The Flames already have a center who is playing better than Cozens is likely ever going to play. I have no problem picking him up on the cheap but now that the Flames have picked up Frost and have Zary who looks like he is a NHL center I am fine with the Flames going into the next couple years with the centers they currently have.

Absolutely. They'll have to buy low on talent, just as they have with the last handful of trades.

The Flames have a center who got 75 points last year and is on pace for 59 point this year. Not sure they need to take a flyer on a guy who had 47 points last year and is on pace for 40 point this year unless the price is very cheap.

Lindholm had 44 pts the year prior to being traded to the Flames and scoring 78 pts.
Yes- he played with Monahan and Gaudreau but you can't discount his contribution in that equation.
