Washingtons drafting has been incredible recently. Hoping flames 2024 looks like that in a couple years

tbh I kind of feel like Leonard is overrated. There's a pretty good argument that Suniev is nearly as good as he is.

Actually a nice list and concept. Was really pleased to see Stromgren so high. It is still a shocker to me that Craig hasn't called him up yet with the season he's having.
Weird that Button omitted Sunyiev as well. You could easily put him, Mews and Gridin on the list compared to some of the players. He's got a far higher ceiling than Battaglia and Stromgren to begin with IMO.

Hutson, Cristall, and Protas were passed on by all teams through several rounds. I was hoping the Flames would have drafted Cristall and Hutson because it seemed both had elite skills and size or skating was being factored too much into the evaluations.

Yeeesh Zayne with 13 points in his last 5 gp and 25 in his last 10. Kid is scorching hot.
Now tracking to surpass last years total after projecting well under it early on.

Craig Button’s list of the 50 best NHL-affiliated prospects has Parekh at #5. He’s behind Demidov (1), Leonard (2), Nikishin (3) and Buium (4).
Stromgren makes the list at #37 and Battaglia also makes the list at #42.

Interesting to see the where the top 6 D-men selected in the 2024 draft are ordered on Buttons list
2nd pick Levshunov #25
7th pick Yakemchuk #40
9th pick Parekh #5
10th pick Silayev #36
11th pick Dickinson is #7
12th pick Buium is #4
re-ordered based on Button's list
Buium
Parehk
Dickinson
Levshunov
Silayev
Yakemchuk
D prospect, Luca Marrelli, who was a 3rd round pick in '24 by Columbus is 23rd on Button's list ahead of Levshunov, Silayev and Yakemchuk
Same with Hutson taken in the 2nd round

Hot and cold kind of guy. Didn't come to play at the start of the season. He is an inconsistent player and good players are consistent. I guess we can call him a Bust. Stick to the Mushy Middle, Calgary Flames!

Would be interesting to see a list of d-men to hit 100 points in the OHL/CHL.
Parkekh is tracking for roughly that now.

I love that the development team is having Parekh think about killing plays and using his feet away from the puck. Karlsson hasn't won a cup, but Makar has. I am going to bet that he looks a lot better at camp later this year than he did last year.
Sky's the limit for this kid if he works hard at all his strengths and weaknesses with and without the puck, and if the Flames also put him into a position to succeed in such a way that they don't stifle him either (which sounds like they won't, according to Conroy and Huska). You don't want to count your chickens before they hatch, but it certainly is exciting having him in the organization.

I'd be curious to see a draft year +1 mock redraft based on the additional sample size we now have for everyone who was selected last year.
Flames with 4 players selected last year who currently sit in the top 20 of OHL scoring this year, including 2 defensemen. I think it would be interesting to see where these guys would rank now in their draft class.

Not sure how he put Buium over Parekh, especially this year.
Buium has been good, but not as good imo.
It’s probably because he sees NCAA as harder competition, but everything that was a knock against Parekh last year seems to be an issue with Buium this year.
Not using teammates well, defensively struggling at times etc.

Makes sense given the NCAA is an older league.
He's tracking behind his draft year though so I'd have him a spot or two after Parekh.
No big deal either way. He's a great prospect. And I'm glad the Flames didn't risk drafting him. Parekh is potentially better and a Canadian kid.
