Huge comeback by Honzek.
Coronato stakes a claim.
Basha and Gridin look very good.
Brustewicz as well.
Grushnikov shows he's an NHLer.
Parekh wasn't ready, but that's fine.
On the big club Zary, Wolf, and Miromanov look the part.
Biggest (only?) issue is Pelletier.

I'm not even down on Pelletier. He obviously hasn't jumped off the page, but his game, especially positionally is as good as it ever was. He won't be a top 6 guy any time soon, but teams still need cost controlled penalty killers and d zone faceoff players.

It's been an amazing year for Conroy, and it's been a fantastic camp!
From the CP prospect vote, we have the following:
1) too young, but is a stud
2) made the team and is looking like a stud
3) looks great, deserves to make the team, regardless of what the numbers dictate
4) looks like a stud, played well enough to make the team (but is better in A)
5) looks like a stud, also has played well enough to make it
6) will probably make it
10) still in camp, looks really good
12) looks great, has played well enough to make it
17) maybe makes it
18) looks like a stud, probably makes it
and several others have looked great

I think honzek and klapka made the team along with pachal and barrie
I think coronato and pelletier didn’t

My guess:
Sharangovich Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Pospisil Mantha
Zary Backlund Coleman
Klapka Rooney Lomberg
Honzek
Morton
Weegar Miromanov
Bahl Andersson
Bean Pachal
Barrie
Wolf
Vladar

They are not keeping Honzek and Morton up to be extra forwards lol.
They’ll be back once we sell off Mantha and Kuzmenko. Maybe more.

I think this is close but Pelletier will be in Morton’s spot and Duehr in Honzek’s. Keeping Rooney up would be a typical Flames move, keep a warm body with 0 upside on the 4th line over graduating a prospect.

I get the Rooney hate he’s not very good but we might need him if Backlund is injured.

Coronato has become less visible as the preseason has progressed and the competition level has increased.

After watching that game my prediction for the next round of cuts is:
Forwards:
Inside track
Sharangovich Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Pospisil Mantha
Zary Backlund Coleman
Lomberg Rooney Klapka
Still in the mix and will get a chance to play vs Jets:
Honzek, Coronato, Pelletier, Hunt
Cuts:
Duehr
Morton
I think Morton is going to be a contract casualty and he has very limited pro experience so I could definitely see him going down to the Wranglers and being the first call up if they need a checking C.
Duehr has lost the spark that made him so good the first time around. I think Klapka stole that jersey.
Defence
Weegar Miromanov
Bahl Andersson
Bean Barrie
Solovyov Pachal
Final cuts:
Grushnikov, Brzustewicz, Tinordi, Poirier
I would bet that the Flames are going to keep eight D on the roster. It's great for practices and they have no cap pressure to expose anyone. Besides, you don't want too many vets down there if Grushnikov and Brzustewicz are going to get big minutes.
Solovyov hurt his stock tonight in my eyes but Huska seems to have faith in his potential.
Goalies
Wolf
Vladar
Cuts:
Cooley
Cooley has been really good but he was signed as an option if Vladar wasn't over his injury or Wolf faltered. Fortunately for the Flames, neither happened. Unfortunately Cooley needs to go through waivers... And you know what, I'd mostly just be happy for the guy if some team thought enough of him to give him a shot.
If he makes it to the Wranglers then that is a nice option to have and also to see if he can realize the potential many see in him. If he doesn't then the Flames haven't invested much in him yet and it wasn't the right timing.

Other than on the first goal against, I thought Solovyov was solid playing on the second pairing and against stronger competition.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Honzek has played every night the Flames have had a game. It would be unusual for a team to have a prospect play every pre-season game and be on the opening-day roster. I think the Flames are giving him as much exposure to NHL play as they can but will send him down to the AHL to begin the season.

I doubt he has lost the spark. It is probably more the case that he is focusing on the positional aspects of the game that the coaches are telling him to work on.
When they get their first chance, players run around wildly, hitting everything and generally causing chaos. Fans love it, and notice them. But coaches don't love it, and they start working with the player to do the things that they want. Then fans think they've lost their spark.

Is he like ever really visible? I rarely notice him in games till the puck hits his stick and nanoseconds later zips towards the net.

I disagree. The coaches and management were so happy with what Duehr brought during his first stint that he became a regular and was signed to a 2 year, one-way contract. If he was really doing more of what the coaches wanted then I doubt he would have spent the majority of last season in the minors.
We'll see what happens but I'd be very surprised if he makes the Flames out of camp this year. A guy like Hunt better suits your description in my opinion and I expect that he's ahead of Duehr in the pecking order.

No harm in Honzek starting the season in the AHL. Also no harm in giving him a little trial at the NHL and see how he does when the competition ramps up a little.

No harm at all. And he has earned it. But keeping him up means exposing someone else to waivers. Just give him his taste when there's an injury and it doesn't risk another player. Doesn't have to be now.

Looks like Pachal has the #7 slot (assuming Barrie signs).
Kuznetsov and Grushnikov sent down today.
Brzustewicz and Hanley are still in camp though.
