Flames have multiple 1sts in the next two drafts. The one pick we are talking about isn't the Flames own pick it's one they acquired.

Taking a shot on Askarov is totally with the parameters of drafting a player in the Devil's range. I don't see it as any different as drafting a player with an extra pick. You're just increasing your odds of finding a young keeper goalie who'll be hitting his stride when it's time to get out of the rebuild.

Wolf/Askarov is better odds than just Wolf

There's no added risk spending one of those extra picks on a top tier prospect

Good point, that would be a tough one. I don’t think NJ is in any danger of finishing bottom-10 in the next few years though. Askarov could be the next Shesterkin though, and we have multiple firsts….

We already have a goalie prospect. Only difference is size. Otherwise Wolf is just as good if not better statistically.

I just don’t believe in trading a 1st or using one at draft on a goalie.

It’s like the running back in football. You can get it done by committee just build a solid team around them.

Also if New Jersey finishes bottom 10 next year they get the pick.

To be clear dis, I don't have a scoop. Totally just based on his interviews over the years where he's shown a ton of frustration at being a scapegoat. If you have inside info, you have a leg up here. I'm moreso just looking behind the curtain and saying he won't want the heat when push comes to shove. If you put enough pressure on people they'll crack. He hasn't endeared himself to the Toronto fans and media as much as he should have partially because he has never admitted he's made mistakes.

Could definitely see them being interested but aren’t they out of assets by now? Seems like they should have nothing left in terms of decent picks/prospects and they’ve let so many players walk in free agency, I can’t see them trading any roster players.

Not sure about them turning around. I was at the flames game in Ana at the end of the season. They were horrible.

I would think Chicago would have interest as well.

They have Toronto’s 1st round pick next year, and 7 2nd round picks over the next 3 years.

They are starting to come out of their rebuild so he makes some sense. I doubt they would want to gamble their own 1st round pick.

He could share time with Mracek for a few years.

They were terrible last season. But they’re at the stage of the rebuild where they’re going to start to expect to put more wins together.
