Absolutely phenomenal signing, perfect use of the cap, and good TDL asset (traded for a 2nd + 4th a few months ago).

Excellent work, Conroy
I hear you about low risk and flipping him.

I think some are a little unimpressed about bringing in someone who has a reputation of not working hard. Lots of stories out there about Blashill when with Grand Rapids struggling to get him to buy in. Holland was frustrated.

Washington had him on 4th line at times. Then Vegas trades for him for playoffs and scratches him.

A trade-deadline acquistion by the Golden Knights. Vegas was barely half way through the club’s opening-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars when the club determined that the best spot for Mantha was in the press box as a healthy scratch.

The 1st round of the 2013 NHL draft had 30 picks and Mantha is now the 9th pick from that top 30 to be part of the Flames organization

I had no idea Mantha was French Canadian.

I really wanted us to draft Mantha in 2013, but he went a few picks ahead of us. Would have been better than Poirier, but I definitely shouldn't be a scout!

Love the term. Can flip at the deadline for picks.

Will be interesting to see his motivation in a "show me" year.

Here's hoping he can click with Huberdeau. Cause... well... anything would be nice there I suppose.

Really like these 1 year deals and this is the type of player.

Mantha has a lot of upside, but unfortunately he is prone to being invisible for long stretches or sometimes games.

Not sure how Huska will handle the player, but the talent is definitely there.

Oh man. French connection? Huberdeau and him together? Huberdeau sold him on this?

I am not ecstatic with this signing either other than just thinking that if he is able to put up some decent points, Conory can flip him a the deadline. I share many people's concerns about him just not being a guy who works very hard.

With that being said, I think Huska has been really good so far as a coach who motivates. Huberdeau is tight with him, and say what you will about Huberdeau's decline, a lack of effort is not a phrase that I would use to describe Huberdeau. Backlund is a good captain, Lomberg back here. Coleman is a great pro, Kadri was great start to finish with his effort. Maybe Mantha gets pulled along for the ride too. Who knows?

I like that this team may have a bit more size and swagger about itself than last year. It is a collection of hard-working guys, top to bottom. Who isn't? Just maybe Mantha. I know Andersson seemed to struggle a bit last season at times with effort (or something - I am assuming effort after seeing the team implode).

I raised my eyebrow at this signing, but it might just be an excellent move. I am going to wait and see how it plays out before I bash Mantha too hard.

Yeah im guessing they are hoping Mantha can be the finisher on a line with Huberdeau on the left and Sharangovich in the middle.

I imagine we see something like this as some point:

Kuzmenko - Kadri - Pospisil
Huberdeau - Zary - Mantha
Sharangovich - Backlund - Coleman
Lomberg - Rooney - Klapka

No doubt management asked Huberdeau to talk it up.

That’s a lot of defensive weight for Zary to carry with those two on the wings.

Mantha? Born in Longueuil, Quebec. Played for Val-d’Or in the Q.

Mantha's analytics are, surprisingly, excellent.

This makes him a very good Coleman(if traded)/Mangiapane replacement.
