Literally everyone on this forum could tell he was playing hurt multiple times throughout his career and the Training Staff allowed it. The early 20s kid who's being bandied about as a future Captain is GOING TO PLAY if they allow him, the adults in the room failed him, period

For professional athletes (at least the high paid ones), I do not think it is a big deal.
The open secret is that the US as a whole is a violence ridden ####hole. The only places in the world even comparable to them for gun violence are active war zones and failed states. You hear about their cities in the news, but rural areas and small towns are even worse with murder rates multi times that of even the worst cities.
But that is the average, there are many quite nices places too. These are the places tourists visit, and where people with money live. These places are quite nice to live in, and you just learn to avoid the rest (especially if are a visible minority). You pay for the nice hospitals, you pay for your kids to go to private schools, the police even give you special treatment. So with money, even in Columbus, it will be a great place to live.

Edit: TL;Dr, Columbus is a perfectly fine city and when I lived there, never felt any more unsafe than Calgary or Vancouver.

I was in Columbus a lot with my previous employer, but always downtown near Nationwide.
Never got the sense it was unsafe.
Did get the sense it was boring a hell!
Downtown reminded me of Calgary in the 90s before downtown became a busy place outside of work hours and on weekend.

As long as you don't get involved in gang violence, you're probably okay. It's like that in most US cities. The violent crime stats are HEAVILY occurring amongst gangs of young men in less advantaged communities. People aren't regularly getting gunned down in higher class subburbs in Chicago.
Even for crimes like robberies, the overall rate in the USA is about 40% higher, but those incidents are disproportionally occurring in those same disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
Even with gun crimes, once you take out gang related, domestic, and suicide related gun incidents, the difference between Canada and the USA is not all that great. The USA obviously has a problem with mass shootings, but on a per capita basis you have a pretty remote chance of getting caught up in one of those.

I've been pretty bitter towards Gaudreau, but it will put a smile on my face if we see Gaudreau setting up Monahan again. Maybe it's because breaking up that pairing was the organizations decision (which was probably the correct one as Monahan could barely play for a couple of years). I guess the desire to see Monahan succeed again is outweighing the schadenfreude from seeing Gaudreau fail.
Plus I get the impression that they genuinely are good friends off the ice. Good to see Moneyhands happy.

My post was concerning the date of the U.S. election. Who knows, more players may take Canadian teams off their no-trade lists. Doubtful that will happen, though.

Hell, 4 suspects sent 10 other people to the hospital with gun wounds in one mass shooting just a few days ago.
That's a hell of a polished turd "gem".

You missed the part where I said "If the city of Columbus was in Canada" name me one large US city that doesn't have those problems

He should have stayed a Flame. The Kadri/Monahan sequence was bad from day one. Kadri has played pretty well

Agree. Kent State alumni here, spent a good amount of time in 3rd and 4th year in Columbus. Was not flush with cash as a student and still never felt unsafe. Certainly, I was aware of the areas I should not go to and that was more than enough.
Spent a good chunk of my adult life in the midwest/east. If you're not looking for it, you're gonna be ok.

I love Monaghan. May be my favorite Flame in a long time. This was the right move. He was not playing well due to injury. Kadri was coming off of a cup win.
Brad gets smashed for the trade but it was the right move at the time, if a bit expensive. He was going all in and this is what that looks like. These things can't be assessed with current knowledge. We can look at how it worked out, but we have to assess the decision at the time with the facts available at the time.
I am super happy for the resurgence in his career and that he has been able to stay happy. I was super pumped he went to CBJ and I will not go into that any further other than to say I am super happy he can be there to be an awesome Uncle Sean.

I disagree. It was a continuation of signing older players to contracts that will bite them. Brouwer to Neal to Lucic to having to dump a player because of his bad UFA signings. It isn't even a hindsight thing for me. Moanhan could be retired and I still wouldn't like it.
