Kid looks like a player in any video I have watched of him. Wicked accurate shot that he can get off fast. Nice vision and passing.

Really seems like a steal at 41.

Yeah his highlight package is bonkers. Steal.

I am curious how he fared when Lindstrom was out?

I believe when Lindstrom went down, he played with Gavin McKenna- so he didn't lose a step.

Interesting how many things are similar to Shinkaruk when he was drafted although they're obviously different players.

Both Medicine Hat Tigers
Both Calgary kids

Shinkaruk draft year: 1.34 PPG
Basha draft year: 1.35 PPG

Shinkaruk: 24OA to Vancouver
Basha: Lots of Flames fans would've been happy to see him go 28th OA using the Vancouver pick.

You’re right. Very similar. but I think when you look closer, you’ll notice a couple things.

Shinkaruk actually plateaued between his D-1 and D-0 seasons. That was the “best” he ever got. Also, he was a one dimensional goal scorer. Didn’t really offer much else.

EDIT- He had hip surgery and was never really the same after now that I went back and did some digging. I remember his skating fell off. I didn’t remember him being a great skater but I guess he was good before the injuries.

This is why a lot of prospects don’t also make the NHL. let’s face it but I think Basha has enough skillset to make it in different ways. He has progressed from D-1 to D-0. Now the next task is, will he continue progressing in D+1 and on or has he hit his ceiling? I don’t think he has hit his ceiling if i’m being honest. I think he has ++Hockey IQ.

I mentioned months ago how much i loved this kids game, last year he played on his buddy Wiesblatt's wing and out scored Lindstrom by 14 points. I've made it clear I'm not a huge proponent of Lindstrom's game so lets just wait to see how Lindstrom plays without Basha.

Nice piece on Basha this morning from Scott Wheeler the the Athletic

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/574...-andrew-basha/

Pretty intriguing player. Wheeler speaks to his competitive qualities comparing that part of his game to Jordan Eberle. Also listened to Byron Bader recently draw comparisons to another local player, Braydon Point.

Sounds like a high upside second round pick.

One of my favorite picks from this year’s draft. Love that he is a Calgary kid, feels like he is going to be a big part of the future team.

Just love the fact that the past draft seems to have it all as a fan.

You have the elite prospect that fell to you, but then you have another 4-5 players that feel like second rounders.

Drafts always get spun as successful, and sometimes players that should make it don't. But it's pretty rare to have most of the hockey world saying the team hit it out of the park.

Fun to have so many players to be excited about.

I'd say last year felt like three players which was nice. I had greater hope for the 2021 draft class but many of the players hit a wall after being selected.

Stromgren could turn out to be a great pick. And Sergeev remains a wildcard. Along with Coronato, it could still turn out to be a very good draft for the Flames.

I had zero expectations after 2021, some guys were lucky to play a dozen games, some none at all due to covid. The 2021 draft was a crap shoot within a crap shoot.

We've added Grushnikov from the 21 draft as well

Absolutley ...

But post draft it felt sneaky good with Beck's injury and the potential in Whynot and Jordan.

I think Ciona is going to play too.

2021 felt like 2024 "lite" to me on draft day.

Yeah, I had high hopes for Beck, in particular.

As we've said though ... a good draft pick doesn't automatically equal a good player. Something like 25% of 2nd rounders turn out to be 200 game NHLers.

But this draft feels like (1 x 95%)+(2 x 40%)+(3 x 25%) = 3 NHLers

But to your point the 21 draft has one already locked and three more that could make the grade as well.

The Basha and Miss picks feel like franchise changers.

We will see.

It’s funny, you go to those initial seminars where they show the stats about how unlikely the kid is to make it anywhere. Nonsense. Fataer didn’t believe in spring hockey. Dude, he’s good, you gotta do spring hockey.he went to the moon soon after.
Sorry if I don't know what the back story is, but what are you trying to say here? The Royals over pass? That kids should "pass" on playing for the Royals? The best way to become an astronaut is to play spring hockey?
