This gave me deja vu to when the legendary play-by-play for my other favourite team, the Raptors, left for Chicago

Ball reminds me a lot of a guy like Dan Shulman. Precise play call, natural chemistry with whoever is on colour, and just a true pro. Good luck to him in Chicago! Massive loss for us. Scorp, come on down!

I heard him allude to radio road games being called from a studio as being a big reason why he left.
He just loves being in the rink and on the road.
Sportsnet at least travels their TV crews. No idea if he even gets a phone call but if he did get an offer to be full time voice of the Flames on TV and travel for all the games, I gotta imagine he would take the gig. He loves to call games, that's his passion.

Pretty often during broadcasts he's trying to be funny and clever with Mikkelson and it comes off dad-tier or just not funny. She played along but I bet she grew tired of it at points. She's not like Loubo and probably doesn't care for his schtick nearly as much as Pete, but not sure he read the room after the change.
Still don't mind his PBP strictly for radio. But let's keep it at that.
No Singh! Please.

Omg. Loubo would be outstanding and the kind of redemption arc that brings a tear to one's eye.
I'd be all for it!
Not sure if he is though after his semi-retirement.

There's some kinda replacement that could fit right in.

hahahah.
*doink!*
I don't think Lou is a good fit for the TV play-by-play (we've seen this show already, it wasn't great) but he is some kinda character in a commentary role.

I like Lou because his excitement is genuine. And he loves all hockey, at all levels.
Even awful rebuild in a small Canadian market hockey! Because let's face it, it will take some ramping up to get excited for some of these games, especially if they fall out of it by December. At least that won't be an issue with Loubardias. And he loves his young, developing players.

I knew this would happen. IMO he's the best all around PBP guy going (better than the national SN guys) and he was bound to go bigger. Huge loss.
He very rarely missed a play, even hard to spot ones. If he said it was tipped, it was.

Another vote for Loubo here, even if it is farfetched.

LOL, my first glimpse was not seeing the first period. Either way, this announcement still sucks. Rick Ball made the games enjoyable.

Rick deserves a bigger stage. He didn't get the national spotlight nearly enough with Sportsnet.
Honestly, I'm happy for him. This is a good news story for someone that's very deserving, and cool that he carved out his craft while covering the Flames.

Would Ryan Leslie do it? I feel like he is better than the intermission interview guy.

I’d love John Bartlett but how would that work? Isn’t he US based out East? Would he move for Calgary?
He has that awesome old timey hockey announcer voice.
And of course Loubo would be great. His encyclopedic knowledge of every prospect would add lots to rebuild coverage.
