Gotcha. Reasoning makes sense but I didn’t view their D depth as being anything really special.

Since this isn't the Edmonton is No Good thread... I'm not sure I can agree that Weegar, Andersson, Kylington, Pachal, Hanley, Miromanov is much, much better than Ekholm, Bouchard, Desharnais, Nurse, Ceci, Kulak.

IMO Weegar and Anderson probably are the top 2 on either team, if either played on the Oilers PP they would be a PPG dman and better defensively than Bouchard. Ekholm and Nurse with Bouchard are all good but nothing special at this point. Ceci, Kulak and Desharnais don't make up the differnce at the top.

Dansk is a 30 year old career minor leaguer.
He’s minor league depth.

I can't find it anywhere so I thought I'd ask you fine folks....
Is Florida's 1st from the Matthew Tkachuk trade a possible 2026? I know it's a conditional 2025 but I thought there was a way it could be a 2026.

If the pick is a top ten the Flames don’t get it

Ullmark blocked a trade to a team on his no trade list... couldn't confirm if it was LA
Bruins have had discussions with a few teams that aren't on his no trade list and those discussions have been punted to later

Here is an explanation:
https://thewincolumn.ca/2023/11/14/a...with-diagrams/
In regards to your question, getting the 2026 pick from Florida means the Flames don't have a 1st in 2025 as they have to transfer their 2025 pick to Montreal. The only exception being if the Flames draft 1st OA in 2025, then they give the better of Florida or Calgary's 2026 1st plus a 2026 3rd to Montreal.

Man, I just tried to read the Calgary 1st to Montreal conditions and my brain hurts.
But it seems a lock we'll get Florida's 2025, no?

As long as it doesn't go to the tiebreaker:
If any doubt remains as to which draft pick is conveyed to Montreal and which remains with Calgary, the lawyers for the two teams shall recite the complete rules of the NHL Salary Cap system, verbatim, from memory. The first lawyer to get a 100% correct response wins.
In the event of a further tie, the teams shall battle it out on the rules for offside video calls.

If CGY’s pick is top-10 and Florida’s is not: Montreal gets Florida’s
If CGY’s pick is not top-10: Montreal gets the better of the two picks
If CGY and FLA’s picks are both top-10: Montreal gets CGY’s pick unless it is 1st overall

I wonder what exactly Treliving was trying to protect with these convoluted conditions.

So I guess we really need to make sure the pick is top 10 next year?

Yeah it really needs to be a top 10 pick next year. Florida is too good to nosedive off the cliff to a bottom 10 finish.

This is really infuriating. In what world does a competent GM not protect a top 3 or 5 pick at all costs, especially in a trade that you only made to gain cap space? This makes sense if you acquired some young stud. God I really really dislike BT.
