Even if you have to make a small add like a B prospect or a mid round pick that is the type of return Conroy should be focused on.

What a weird time for the Flames. They also brought back Tanguay.
Just wackiness.

I believe Sutter was GM during that time?

Nothing beats trading jokinen just to sign him back as a free agent.
Maybe… just maybe, that’s what Conroy will do with Tanev.

Rob Ramage returned Brett Hull. And both teams were happy.

Why not just let him go? We need a couple season retool regardless and he is effectively this generations Todd Simpson or Cale hulse (depending on your preference)
We don’t need Tanev back

Depends what you mean by need
Tanev is still a beast, would be a warrior for his career, even on third pairing, until he can’t physically move anymore
He’s just built different, and seems like a guy who would also accept his role and do the most with it, but also I don’t see him as unrealistic enough to stick past his due date

But Tanev can play hockey. That alone did distinguishes him from those two players.

I wonder if any teams are watching Hanifin and Tanev play together and trying to figure out how to get both

I doubt Tanev can get Bourque easily, or the trade would be done long ago.
Especially since the cost is supposedly a first round pick which is valued less than Bourque.
Now I consider Tanev a spectacular add for the deadline, so who knows what might happen if a number of teams target him.

I can't recall that ever happening at a deadline. It would be quite the coup for a contender to add a complete solid pairing. The kind of move that could make a huge difference in the playoffs on a team that's built to win now. The ask would be ridiculously high though and a lot of money would have to be retained or go back the other way via contract.

It would be insane. And the money isn't even that bad.
Their combined contracts: $9.45M
At 50% each: $4.725M (so a team with $0 space would need to send back a $5M cap hit)
For a team with banked cap, they would only need $1.325M of banked space to take both (at 50%) for the remainder of the season.
I would think getting both (retained) would require an A prospect (like top 20 in the league), a B prospect, a 1st, and another pick.
(when I say A and B, I mean where A is expected to be a star, and a B is expected to be top 6 / top 4)

The add would not be small and certainly not a mid round pick to get Bourque. Since his draft day his stick has rose quite substantially. He had a great first year in ahl and has followed it up with being ahl scoring leader this year.

The Flames are pretty deep with B-prospect wingers. How about someone like Klapka? His size makes him somewhat of a wild card for potential.

It's a little odd, if Bourque is the prospect that is expendable, then why is Stankoven the one being showcased?

He’s not being showcased. Seigun is hurt.
