The amount of NHL players who do cocaine is mind boggling. It shows up in their urine for the performance enhancing testing. It's not a suspension worthy offense in the NHL for that like it would for other sports/leagues.

When it does show up, they are given direction by the NHLPA and others about getting assistance with drug abuse and also the risks to their careers if they get caught, stopped at the border, have issues with immigration and more.

Charges related to illegal drugs is another matter as that is a police and court system issue. I have a feeling the PA will challenge and he get's to keep his salary for the remainder of the season.

A small town? If you double the size of Kelowna, Stockton is still bigger. If it were in Canada it would probably be in the top 15 of largest cities, or close to it.

And yeah, probably good for them that they want to stop gangs, crime, and illiteracy. Shouldn't we all want to do that?

I think a lot of people here would be surprised to find out how common Cocaine use is

Hardly an NHL problem

Is it though? I like to think I have a wide circle of friends and business colleagues and to my knowledge no one I know has ever gone near it.

Must be a very well guarded secret in peoples lives.

Or I might be sheltered.

I will say this - lots of people in partake or at least have at one point... wayyyyy more than I ever thought. It's more common than you think.

It is weird, I have some groups of friends that I am convinced have never been near it, some that are "now and again" with it, and others where it is prevalent. I'm thankful for having a strong fear of it. Especially with the fentanyl these days.

Funny thing is that my very well-off friends and fellow Kelowna residents are actually in the first category that I described above. My other observation is that I've run across more users in small nowhere towns than in cities.

I was invited to a party for a work colleague of my sister. She works at an elementary school, so I thought cool, a bunch of elementary school teachers. I'll stop and grab a bottle of Fireball and show them how to let loose. When I got there, they snorting cocaine like crazy. It was pretty shocking at the time, but after that I encountered similar situations.

I don't think sheltered is necessarily the right term, but yeah I bet some of those business colleagues would surprise you

Who knows? My idea of fun is arguing about goaltending value on CalgaryPuck.

Sheltered, maybe, but I've never had the feeling to try drugs. Don't really care if other people do, it's just not my thing.

It's been popular among rich athletes for 50 years, an old friend of mine who played in NY during the 70's told me it would be common to see a 1/4 ounce dumped on a table at party's.

I'll leave out the other stuff

Depends how old you are. If you’re 35+. You’re definitely “sheltered”. Cocaine is the easiest drug to hide and can be used as a recreational only drug for a long period of time.

Just look for people with one nostril bigger than the other. Or do a lot of "phantom" snorts in public.

I've been told by people in the know that the drug scene is wild.. Part of me still wants to bury my head in the sand and pretend these guys are cleaner than they probably are.

If Scarface is anything to go off of, a heap of snow can help you power through immense amounts of pain...

..looks nervously at Tanev

Ruzicka was on his way to Europe
This just speeds it up a little
He just wants to make his exit a little bit memorable

You work a white-collar job in Manhattan?

They are lying to you.

The NHL should look into the use of painkillers that are used in non-medical ways rather than dicking around on cocaine. That is an investigation that everyone wants to see, what do teams tell their players to do to make sure they get on the ice. That would be a much more interesting subject than arbitrary action on cocaine.

The real question is....the real question...

Do we as fans want an NHL without Cocaine?

Because I'm envisioning a 'Simpsons Moment' where the NHL eliminates all cocaine use and then the on-ice product all of a sudden becomes really slow crap.

Cocaine does not help you perform better. In any way
