Just watched the game on PVR. For a back to back with travel againdt a great team I thought they looked good.
They need some more scoring horsepower though.

Not that they didn't play well on a B2B with travel, but the Avs were also B2B with travel from Minneapolis. I don't think anyone mentioned this in here.
Sorry, not usually the Debbie Downer type.

Google says 2 hrs and 10 mins which is 10 mins shorter than Minneapolis to Denver, which the Avs did the night before, as well. The argument about a lengthy and packed road trip for the Flames is valid but the "played the night before and then flew to Denver" isn't.

Man, you guys are all wrong. Denver is an hour behind Dallas, so it's only a 40-60 minute flight, which is probably exactly what Hrudey (someone who has made that trip many times) meant.
Kinda like how Vancouver is an hour and a half in the air, but you leave here at 8 AM and get there at 8:30 AM (I flew there and back once a month for 6 years).

Dude...they changed his number. He was penciled onto the roster.
Yeah, its a damned shame Poirier got hurt because I think he was going to get a real opportunity this season.

Why? Because they’re in the mushy middle. They’re a mediocre team *at best*.
8-10-3.
If they don’t sell their free agents, then they’ll never be more than what they are now.
|
The "mushy middle" is the Flames.
The franchise trajectory sometimes deviates north or south of this point for short bursts, but it always comes back to center, and that is the mushy middle. Expecting anything different will only result in further pain.

1) It was more of a cumulative issue thing.
2) the point I was actually making was that, despite a ridiculous schedule recently, the Flames never made it an excuse, and in fact played with heart, energy, and no quit.

Plus travel time is only half of it. Arrival time (not sure when they got in versus the Avs), hotel time, etc.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Getting in late and having to go through that airport in Denver couldn't have been fun. Add in the curse of Blucifer and there you go.

Nor should they. Every team goes through travel stuff, its part of the game.
Now that the Flames are playing at home for 6 games, will anyone lament that their opponents are going through certain travel stuff which may make them easier to play against?

Don't think he's saying that.
Plus travel schedules are never equal, we all know that. Some teams (fan bases) have more to bitch about than others.
Flames always top 10.

LOL, if the Flames won all of this stretch of games against top teams, I think they will have a good chance of winning the Cup! We kind of knew they'd never win against the Avs and likely against the VGK tonight. I think the Flames played well enough to keep themselves in the game and not get blown right out of the water.

Well, they do. Canucks whined about having to travel to Calgary when they lost here.

They are never equal, so why complain about something that will never change?
More players want to play in NY or LA, accept it and move on.
With a salary cap, it's not that big of an advantage anyway. Otherwise, you'd see the rangers win the Cup all the time.

The entire discussion was about the fact that the Flames DIDN'T complain, despite having the worst travel schedule in the league so far, and have been on a crazy 9-game in 16 day bender, in 4 time zones.
AND NO ONE COMPLAINED. And they played well, all the way through it.
BTW...
The Flames have had 14 road games (the most in the NHL), and have travelled over 21k kms this year. Washington has played 5 road games and travelled 3K.
It's a valid discussion point.

It is quite the weird schedule for them. Lots of travel, but against the 'mushy middle'. Now they can rest at home... against a long series of top-tier teams. That's just a weird schedule. Did Don Henderson get a position with scheduling, and he is still exacting his revenge on the Flames or something?
It could be worse at least. Schedule is the schedule, and at least the team had time to prepare for it.
I can also look at it a different way - the schedule was really slow to start, and up until now, had mostly road games. I think being on the road takes a lot of the pressure off and the Flames could have easily spiralled further down with all that extra pressure near the start of the season. Playing a bunch of games against top-tier opponents can also help to get your team into a good rhythm of playing well-consistently... or it can erode your confidence and destroy your season. I think this next stretch will really show what this team is made of.

I mean its all we heard about when they pounded the Canucks after their ONE hour flight
Its amazing they can be home for 6 straight this before christmas and will still have more road games played after the homestand

Lots of logical and moral statements.
But none of them really fit what was said above do they? I certainly didn't get the feeling that anyone thought the Flames were hard done by, or were complaining.
Just pointing out how odd it was that Vancouver was leaning on that excuse so heavily.

Vancouver had a much harder flight than anyone else.
An order came down from ownership: ‘We're trying to save on jet fuel. Everybody flap your arms for the whole flight.’
